“To Thine Own Self Be True”

From the Pastor: Dr. M. J. Seymour, Sr.
“Through desire a man, having separated himself, seeketh and intermeddleth with all wisdom.” (Prov. 18:1)
Consecrated spirituality is NOT an easy undertaking. The whole empire of evil strives to hinder and to manipulate the lives of the sons of God as to distract and bar them from any peaceful interaction with the Father in the holy depths of His Spirit. If one is to truly grow in grace and knowledge then he must force the separation against all odds. He must come out and separate himself that he might find himself. Constant worldly interruptions interrupt the flow of truth from the Spirit of God teaching His beloved. One cannot learn if he cannot hear. Separate unto the mind of God.
“Through desire” carries within it the force of the longing of one’s heart. Contextually, it is the passion of one to know his own self and his absolute, verifiable, status with God. Opinions projected by others and self are not good enough. Irrefutable truth it must be! However dangerous this may seem, the craving of the heart that seeks to please the Father can have no less.
The words “seek” meaning to search out and “intermeddleth” giving the sense of exposing or laying bare the truth of one’s self before the searching and examining eyes of God. King David wrote: “Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts: And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.” (Ps. 139:23-24) For one consumed with such a passion to know self through God’s perception is unquenchable until the truth be known and dealt handled in a holy manner. It is the longing of the heart to find one’s self in the Lord Jesus’ likeness.
Paul wrote: “Study to show thyself approved unto God,” (II Tim. 2:15) “Wisdom,” briefly, is the correct use of knowledge. One may have knowledge but it does not insure that it will be used acceptably. Shakespeare wrote: “To thine own self be true.” It is wisdom to know “self” if “self” strives to be conformed to the image of Christ.
