Brotherly love = Also a gift and command from God. Our love for our brothers and sisters in Christ is also a gift imparted to us at the new birth. Praise the Lord!

I JOHN 3:11 FOR THIS IS THE MESSAGE THAT YE HEARD FROM THE BEGINNING, THAT WE SHOULD LOVE ONE ANOTHER.
I JOHN 3:14 WE KNOW THAT WE HAVE PASSED FROM DEATH UNTO LIFE, BECAUSE WE LOVE THE BRETHREN. HE THAT LOVETH NOT HIS BROTHER ABIDETH IN DEATH.
I JOHN 3:16 HEREBY PERCEIVE WE THE LOVE OF GOD, BECAUSE HE LAID DOWN HIS LIFE FOR US: AND WE OUGHT TO LAY DOWN OUR LIVES FOR THE BRETHREN.
I JOHN 3:17 BUT WHOSO HATH THIS WORLD'S GOOD, AND SEETH HIS BROTHER HAVE NEED, AND SHUTTETH UP HIS BOWELS OF COMPASSION FROM HIM, HOW DWELLETH THE LOVE OF GOD IN HIM?

I JOHN 3:18 MY LITTLE CHILDREN, LET US NOT LOVE IN WORD, NEITHER IN TONGUE; BUT IN DEED AND IN TRUTH.

The LORD [is] far from the wicked: but he heareth the prayer of the righteous. (Proverbs 15:29)
Rejoice, O believer, for you are always given the privilege of speaking directly to the ear of the Father of heaven through the gift of His Son! He will hear your cry at every hour. Your every need is His own concern. Turn to Him with your every fear, your every trouble, and every prayer of thanks!

Fruits (good works) are the result of a God-given salvation, not the cause of it. Let’s not confuse cause and effect. They are the evidence of salvation, not the other way around.

Love of and for our brothers and sisters in Christ and hatred of the world = the life of a believer

JOHN 15:17-19 THESE THINGS I COMMAND YOU, THAT YE LOVE ONE ANOTHER.
IF THE WORLD HATE YOU, YE KNOW THAT IT HATED ME BEFORE IT HATED YOU.

IF YE WERE OF THE WORLD, THE WORLD WOULD LOVE HIS OWN: BUT BECAUSE YE ARE NOT OF THE WORLD, BUT I HAVE CHOSEN YOU OUT OF THE WORLD, THEREFORE THE WORLD HATETH YOU.

We ought to hate it with a deadly hatred!

(J.C. Ryle)

"As He drew near to the gate of the town, behold, a dead person was being carried out, the only son of his mother, and she was a widow." Luke 7:12
We see here, what sorrow sin has brought into the world. We are told of a funeral at Nain. All funerals are mournful things, but it is difficult to imagine a funeral more mournful than the one here described. It was the funeral of a young man, and that young man the only son of his mother, and that mother a widow. There is not an item in the whole story, which is not full of misery. And all this misery, be it remembered, was brought into the world by sin. God did not create it at the beginning, when He made all things "very good." Sin is the cause of it all! "Sin entered into the world" when Adam fell, "and death by sin." Romans 5:12
Let us never forget this solemn truth. The world around us is full of sorrow. Sickness, and pain, and infirmity, and poverty, and labor, and trouble--abound on every side. From one end of the world to the other--the history of families is full of lamentation, and weeping, and mourning, and woe.
And whence does it all come? Sin is the fountain and root to which all must be traced. There would neither have been tears, nor illness, nor deaths, nor funerals in the earth--if there had been no sin. We must bear this state of things patiently. We cannot alter it. We may thank God that there is a remedy in the Gospel, and that this present life is not all. But in the meantime, let us lay the blame at the right door. Let us lay the blame on sin.
How much we ought to hate sin! Instead of loving it, cleaving to it, dallying with it, excusing it, playing with it--we ought to hate it with a deadly hatred! Sin is the great murderer, and thief, and pestilence, and nuisance of this world. Let us make no peace with it. Let us wage a ceaseless warfare against it. It is "the abominable thing which God hates!" Happy is he who is of one mind with God, and can say, I "abhor that which is evil." Romans 12:9

Proverbs 22:20-21

Have not I written to thee excellent things in counsels and knowledge, That I might make thee know the certainty of the words of truth; that thou mightest answer the words of truth to them that send unto thee?”

Praise God He gave us His Word!!! Without Him we have no understanding, no knowledge of the truth of His Word. O how men have tried to distort the Word of God over the centuries. Many so called versions and commentaries have been written. Most are nothing but the corrupt thoughts of man.
O child of God, study to shew thyself approved unto God. Read and listen to the words of our Lord. O how the love of God for His people is shown so clearly in His Word. If only we will take the time to read and study and listen.

Praise ye the Lord!!!

His mercy is a boundless, fathomless, endless ocean!

   ~  ~  ~  ~

(James Smith, "The Evening Sacrifice; Or, A Help to Devotion" 1859)

"You, O Lord, are good, and ready to forgive--and abundant in mercy to all who call upon You." Psalm 86:5

What a beautiful representation of God is this! How comforting, at the close of another day's cares and troubles, sorrows and sins--to be reminded that our "God is good," and especially that He is "ready to forgive"--ready to pardon all the faults and follies of this day--ready to pass them by, and still treat me as His beloved child!

He only requires me to confess and be sorry for my sins--and in a moment, all is forgiven, all is forgotten, and forgotten forever!

Then He is "abundant in mercy." The fountain of His mercy has not yet run dry. Run dry! It is not in the least diminished! His mercy is a boundless, fathomless, endless ocean!

God has plenty of mercy for miserable sinners . . .
  mercy to pardon them,
  mercy to purify them,
  mercy to comfort them,
  mercy to save them--
mercy for all who call upon Him!

O my soul, take home tonight this lovely representation of your God, and believing that He is good, ready to forgive, and abundant in mercy--go to Him, call upon Him, and plead with Him. Then you may obtain mercy, and find grace to help you in every time of need.

Good and gracious God, I adore You for Your goodness; I bless You that You are ready to forgive; I rejoice that You are abundant in mercy. And now, O Lord, glorify Your mercy in me--show Your readiness to forgive, in me! Let my heart be eased of every sorrow--and let my conscience be cleansed from every sin! Let me lie down to rest tonight guiltless--rejoicing in the glorious fact that You have blotted out my sins as a cloud, and my transgressions as a thick cloud, and are now at eternal peace with me!

Faith by grace or law?

Galatians 3:1-6 O foolish Galatians, who hath bewitched you, that ye should not obey the truth, before whose eyes Jesus Christ hath been evidently set forth, crucified among you?
This only would I learn of you, Received ye the Spirit by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith?
Are ye so foolish? having begun in the Spirit, are ye now made perfect by the flesh?
Have ye suffered so many things in vain? if it be yet in vain.
He therefore that ministereth to you the Spirit, and worketh miracles among you, doeth he it by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith?

Even as Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness.

That miracle of Divine grace wrought in the soul

   ~  ~  ~  ~

(Arthur Pink)

Regeneration is that miracle of Divine grace wrought in the soul . . .
  which enlists the affections Godward,
which brings the human will into subjection to the Divine,
and which produces a real and radical change in the life.
That change is from worldliness--to godliness; from disobedience--to obedience.

At the new birth, the love of God is shed abroad in the heart by the Holy Spirit, and that love is manifested in a dominating longing and sincere purpose to please in all things, the One who has plucked me as a brand from the burning. There is a greater difference between the genuine Christian and the deceived professing Christian--than there is between a living man and a corpse. None need remain in doubt, if they will honestly measure themselves by the Holy Word of God.

Ah, dear readers, the test is fruit! Not knowledge, not boastings, not orthodoxy, not joy--but fruit; and such "fruit" as mere nature cannot produce. It is the fruit of the Vine--namely, likeness to Christ, being conformed to His image. May the Holy Spirit search each one of us.

Daily Thoughts September 25, 2017

God’s will is immutable. He decreed in eternity past to save some without a cause and wrote their name in the Book of life. The saved can rest assured that once He imparts faith in Christ in us by the new birth, He will never leave us nor forsake us. We are eternally saved and He will sanctify us until our glorification in heaven. It is as good as done. Praise the Lord for saving me and to God be the glory!

HEBREWS 12:2  LOOKING UNTO JESUS THE AUTHOR AND FINISHER OF OUR FAITH; WHO FOR THE JOY THAT WAS SET BEFORE HIM ENDURED THE CROSS, DESPISING THE SHAME, AND IS SET DOWN AT THE RIGHT HAND OF THE THRONE OF GOD.

Five Short Rules for Christians

   ~  ~  ~  ~

(Brownlow North, 1810-1875)

1. Never neglect daily private prayer; and when you pray, remember that God is present, and that He hears your prayers.

2. Never neglect daily private Bible reading; and when you read, remember that God is speaking to you, and that you are to believe and act upon all that He says.

3. Never let a day pass without trying to do something for Jesus. Every day reflect on what Jesus has done for you--and then ask yourself, "What am I doing for Him?"
4. If you are in doubt as to a thing being right or wrong--then go to your room and kneel down and ask God's blessing on it. If you cannot do this, then it is wrong.

5. Never take your standard of Christianity from other Christians--or argue that because such and such people do so and so--therefore, you may. You are to ask yourself, "How would Jesus act in my place?"--and strive to follow Him alone.

We are made perfect in Christ!

COLOSSIANS 2:10  AND YE ARE COMPLETE IN HIM, WHICH IS THE HEAD OF ALL PRINCIPALITY AND POWER:

If we were what we profess to be, and what we should be

   ~  ~  ~  ~

(Charles Spurgeon)

"When they saw the courage of Peter and John and realized that they were unschooled, ordinary men--they were astonished and they took note that these men had been with Jesus!" Acts 4:13

A Christian should be a striking likeness of Jesus Christ. You have read "Lives of Christ"--beautifully and eloquently written. But the best life of Christ is His living biography, written out in the words and actions of His people.

If we were what we profess to be, and what we should be--we would be pictures of Christ! Yes, such striking likenesses of Him that the world would, when they once beheld us, exclaim, "He has been with Jesus! He has been taught of Him! He is like Him! He has caught the very idea of the holy Man of Nazareth, and he works it out in his life and everyday actions!"

"He who says he abides in Him--ought himself also to walk just as He walked." 1 John 2:6

And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith: (Philippians 3:9)
When we accept Christ as our Savior, His righteousness is placed upon us. It is not our own semblance of righteousness (which is as filthy rags) that clothes us, but Christ's own perfection (which is as robes of white).

My Prayer: Thank you, Lord, for Your love that allows me to be clothed in Your righteousness! May I never take it for granted!

A Thought From our Pastor:

God Works In Us, The Will To Do…Philippians 2:13 “For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.”

I know and understand mankind enough to know this, as mankind we believe there is not much we can’t do if we just set our hearts and minds to its conclusion. However, we must understand the works of God, for spiritual things can only be accomplished by God. Fleshly speaking there is a lot we can do if we set our minds to it, but it is only by the power of God that we can work spiritual satisfaction to God. First, let’s look at salvation. Only God can cause a lost sinner to repent and seek salvation, and to receive it. No one has the ability to turn from their old nature to a new one if God has no given them a new one to start with. God uses the examples of an Ethiopian changing their skin color of a leopard changing their spots. Neither can change what they are no more than man can change what they are, depraved, lost sinners. Second, let’s look at church membership. Church membership is brought about by God also. People don’t just join a church, God has chosen the fold before the foundation of the world, and He has elected His church before the foundation of the world. God in comparing the church to a human body says in 1 Corinthians 12:18 “But now hath God set the members every one of them in the body, as it hath pleased him.” He said “every member” meaning that if you are a true church members that God has set you in the church, and in the position He wants you to serve in that church. God chooses the Pastors, missionaries, and all other workers as He is pleased to send them. Just as He sent the prophet Jeramiah. The main problem with so many today is they either fail to understand these truths, or they are ignoring this. Let us look at what John said in John 3:27 “John answered and said, A man can receive nothing, except it be given him from heaven.” Some have said we should add “of his own will” when speaking of man, which does the original text no harm at all. Because spiritually speaking the closer a believes is to this thought, the closer they are to God, and trusting God in everything. God is always telling us to look to Him for our life resources. James wrote in James 1:5 “If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.” Whatever you need ask of God, stop trying to do-it-yourself. You are not washing your car, or changing your oil. You are a believer in Jesus Christ, you are attending to the King’s work. When working for the King it is best done if he is doing it through you. Let us look at what Amos said in Amos 7:15 “And the LORD took me as I followed the flock, and the LORD said unto me, Go, prophesy unto my people Israel.” Amos did not just choose to do this work, God sent Him and like so many others, he obeyed and did as the Lord said. We must be patient and wait on the Lord, He knows what is best and what need to be done. The “preacher” Solomon wrote in Ecclesiastes 7:8 a very profound truth, “Better is the end of a thing than the beginning thereof: and the patient in spirit is better than the proud in spirit.” Let us remember that waiting on the Lord to act in us is better than just acting. I remember waiting more than 20 years in the ministry before the Lord gave me my first and only church, and it was worth the wait! If you have a need, your church has a need, or if you are searching for a work, or searching for workers, always remember God sets people in place as He chooses, be patient. We will end with these words, “And no man taketh this honour unto himself, but he that is called of God, as was Aaron…So also Christ glorified not himself to be made an high priest; but he that said unto him, Thou art my Son, to day have I begotten thee.” Hebrews 5:4-5 DO NOT ATTEMPT IT, IF GOD HAS NOT CALLED YOU TO IT. Amen!

SentimentalismBy Elder O. B. Mink (our former Pastor)

SENTIMENTALISM, A VICIOUS ENEMY OF THE CHURCH AND PASTOR

Sentimental: “Marked or governed by feeling.” (Webster).

THE PASTOR:
1. CAN NOT PREACH Election because the daughter of Brother and Sister Elite, is in attendance with her family, and they belong to an Arminian church. And we do not want to offend them.
2. CAN NOT PREACH ON BAPTISM because some of the church members have loved ones who have been sprinkled, and they would surely believe the Pastor’s remarks were directed toward them.
3. CAN NOT PREACH ON CLOSED COMMUNION, for some will feel left out, and nobody likes that left out feeling.
4. CAN NOT PREACH ON MISSIONS, because we do not want to offend our members or visitors who have some Primitive Baptist kinfolks.
5. CAN NOT PREACH CHURCH TRUTH, for there are some good people in the invisible church, and many of them are fiends to some members of our church.
6. CAN NOT PREACH ON HOLY LIVING, for everyone sins. Therefore, we are not qualified to rebuke our brother or sister for sinning. “Who is it that is so sin free that they can cast the first stone?” (It was rank and God defying hypocrites to whom Christ put this question; it was not addressed to the church. The Lord’s church is not only qualified to officially rebuke sin, but is commanded of the Lord to do so (John 8:1-10; I Corinthians 5:12-13, 6:2-3; Romans 6:14-15; I John 2:1).
7. CAN NOT PREACH STEWARDSHIP, because Brother Hardship is in debt way over his head, and to preach tithing would be like rubbing salt in his wounds.
8. Etc.

THE SHAMEFUL RESULT OF THE ABOVE SENTIMENTAL RESTRICTIONS IS A CHURCH AND PASTOR THAT SIMPLY, CAN NOT PREACH!

Nevertheless, the word of God admonishes every New Testament church and Pastor, saying: “Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.” (II Timothy 4:2).

And the first New Testament preachers said: “... WE OUGHT TO OBEY GOD RATHER THAN MAN” (Acts 5:29).

COLOSSIANS 2:6-7  AS YE HAVE THEREFORE RECEIVED CHRIST JESUS THE LORD, SO WALK YE IN HIM:
ROOTED AND BUILT UP IN HIM, AND STABLISHED IN THE FAITH, AS YE HAVE BEEN TAUGHT, ABOUNDING THEREIN WITH THANKSGIVING.

We are saved by a God-given faith in Christ, trusting He paid the full price for our sins at Calvary by His grace and mercy. So simple! Too easy! Yet, it is all that is required and that will save us. Only the regenerated sinner can walk that walk. Our human depraved nature rebels about the gospel and the unbeliever’s pride gets in the way and wants to add works, religion, self-righteousness….

But how sweet and how blessed we are when we walk this journey of faith in complete dependence upon God’s grace and by trusting Him just like when He saved us. There is nothing else and nothing more we can do! Praise the Lord!

The lock-smith's great bunch of keys!

   ~  ~  ~  ~

(Charles Spurgeon)

"He has given us His very great and precious promises!" 2 Peter 1:4

God's promises are precious, because they tell of exceedingly great and precious things. We have promises in the Bible which time would fail us to repeat, which for breadth and length are immeasurable. They deal with every great thing which the soul can need:
  promises of pardoned sin,
  promises of sanctification,
  promises of teaching,
  promises of guidance,
  promises of upholding,
  promises of ennobling,
  promises of progress,
  promises of consolation,
  promises of perfection.

In this blessed book you have . . .
  promises for time--and promises for eternity;
promises for every condition every believer!

I sometimes liken God's promises to the lock-smith's great bunch of keys which he brings when you have lost the key of your chest, and cannot unlock it. He feels pretty sure that out of all the keys upon his ring, some one or another will fit, and he tries them with patient industry. At last--yes--that is it--he has loosened the bolt, and now you can get at your treasures!

In the same way, there is always a promise in the volume of inspiration, suitable to your present case.

The promises are precious in themselves . . .
  from their suitability to us,
  from their coming from God,
  from their being immutable,
from their being sure of performance, and
from their containing wrapped up within themselves, all that every child of God can ever need!

"He has given us His very great and precious promises!"

“There, but for the grace of God, go I” (John Bradford)

Thankful for the sufficiency of God’s grace to help us to keep on keeping on every day!

2 Corinthians 12:9 AND HE SAID UNTO ME, MY GRACE IS SUFFICIENT FOR THEE: FOR MY STRENGTH IS MADE PERFECT IN WEAKNESS. MOST GLADLY THEREFORE WILL I RATHER GLORY IN MY INFIRMITIES, THAT THE POWER OF CHRIST MAY REST UPON ME.

One of the secrets of happy and beautiful life!

   ~  ~  ~  ~

(J.R. Miller)

"As your days--so shall your strength be!" Deuteronomy 33:25

One of the secrets of happy and beautiful life
, is to live one day at a time. Really, we never have anything to do any day--but the bit of God's will for that day. If we do that well--we have absolutely nothing else to do.

Time is given to us in days. It was so from the beginning. This breaking up of time into little daily portions means a great deal more than we are accustomed to think. For one thing, it illustrates the gentleness and goodness of God. It would have made life intolerably burdensome if a year, instead of a day--had been the unit of division. It would have been hard to carry a heavy load, to endure a great sorrow, or to keep on at a hard duty--for such a long stretch of time. How dreary our common task-work would be--if there were no breaks in it, if we had to keep our hand to the plough for a whole year! We never could go on with our struggles, our battles, our suffering--if night did not mercifully settle down with its darkness, and bid us rest and renew our strength.

We do not understand how great a mercy there is for us in the briefness of our short days. If they were even twice as long as they are--life would be intolerable! Many a time when the sun goes down--we feel that we could scarcely have gone another step. We would have fainted in defeat--if the summons to rest had not come just when it did.

We see the graciousness of the divine thoughtfulness in giving us time in periods of little days, which we can easily get through with--and not in great years, in which we would faint and fall by the way. It makes it possible for us to go on through all the long years and not to be overwrought, for we never have given to us at any one time--more than we can do between the morning and the evening.

If we learn well the lesson of living just one day at a time, without anxiety for either yesterday or tomorrow, we shall have found one of the great secrets of Christian peace. That is the way God teaches us to live. That is the lesson both of the Bible and of nature. If we learn it, it will cure us of all anxiety; it will save us from all feverish haste; it will enable us to live sweetly in any experience.

"Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own." Matthew 6:34

With everything happening in the world today, it is hard not too get discouraged and wearied down by all the disasters and sins, but we have a great reason to rejoice always: the Lord is Sovereign over it all! And He promised all will work for the good of His people! So let us rejoice and be glad for this is the day the Lord has made!

A Thought From our Pastor:

The Everlasting Father. Isaiah 9:6 “For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.”

Here in this wonderful passage of scripture God gives us some most wonderful and exciting news about our Saviour Jesus The Christ. First notice the words “For unto us a child is born” God speaks here as a thing already done, God did not say this Child would be born but as though He already had been. So how is this The Saviour of mankind, Jesus The Christ? We must understand that we are speaking of God, Who is eternal. There is a reason that God never changes, that reason is because He is eternal. John Gill described this word “eternal” this way “God is eternal, from everlasting to everlasting; the Ancient of days, before all things, and all time; which is, and was, and is to come:” since God is “before all things, and all time; which is, and was, and is to come” He can describe things as though they have already happened, because to God they have. This is the reason God cannot change, He has already predestinated, or ordained all that is going to be. Therefore, before the creation of the world, before sin entered the world God had already ordained our Saviour, Jesus The Christ, therefore it was as sure as though it had already happened. Another example of this is found in Romans 8:29-30 “For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren. (30.) Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified. God foreknew them (His Elect) before creation and had predestinated them to be called, justified, and glorified and it is as certain as though it had already happened. If you are saved you have experienced all of these except one, being glorified has yet to happen, this completion of our salvation will not take place until Jesus raptures us in His return glorifying our bodies completing the trifecta of our salvation soul, spirit, and body. So, while we can ascribe all these other names to Jesus Christ, some have an issue with the words “The everlasting Father” Their argument is, how can the Son of God also be described as “The everlasting Father”? I must ask, of whom are the scriptures describing, Jesus is not just a Son, He is the Son of God. Jesus declared in John 10:30 “I and my Father are one.” Now understand, they are not one as the churches are unified as one, but they are absolutely one single being. Jesus also said in John 14:9 “...he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Shew us the Father?” Also remember in John chapter one verse one where John wrote about Jesus “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” This is proof that Jesus Christ was not “just” Gods Son, but God Himself in the likeness of sinful flesh. In Verse 14 of John 1 it says, “And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us…” If Jesus Christ is God, then He is God in the flesh. The words “everlasting Father” recognizes His as creator of all things. Which is verified in Colossians 1:16 "For by him were all things created..." and in verse 17 it says, “And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.” Again, speaking of Jesus Christ. This is telling us that Jesus Christ is “the Father of eternity”, which identifies Him as the creator of all things, before all things He was. One thing about Jesus Christ people forget is, He is God, very God. While He was born as a child, He came from eternity which is proved out in all the above scriptures.

Four Things About The ElectBy Elder Curtis Pugh

The Bible teaches election. Some people are called “the elect.” Paul wrote of these saying, “Therefore I endure all things for the elect’s sakes, that they may also obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory,” (2 Timothy 2:10). Election is not salvation. Election is unto salvation. God uses means such as Paul's example and his preaching during sufferings in bringing the elect to salvation.

First: the elect were chosen before the world began. Paul wrote: “According as he [God] hath chosen us [those He planned to save] in him [Christ] before the foundation of the world, that we [the elect] should be holy and without blame before him in love,” (Ephesians 1:4). God does not choose sinners because they first chose Him. Election does not mean that God votes for you, the devil votes for you and you cast the deciding vote. This is totally contrary to the Bible! In the first place you were not around when the election was held and, secondly, the devil did not vote. God chose!

Second: election is not based upon any foreseen faith or action of the individuals chosen in order “...that the purpose of God according to election might stand, not of works, but of him that calleth,” (Romans 9:11). Again, Paul writing about “...the election of grace,” continued saying, “And if by grace, then is it no more of works: otherwise grace is no more grace. But if it be of works, then is it no more grace: otherwise work is no more work,” (Romans 11:5-6). Election is entirely by grace: a bestowal completely free and unobtainable by any works, deed or act of the sinner.

Third: God's elect cannot be charged with sin. The elect do sin, but, “Who shall lay any thing to the charge of God’s elect? It is God that justifieth,” (Romans 8:33). God justifies, i.e. He declares His elect to be righteous in His sight based upon Christ's finished work. Paul goes on to explain: “Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us [children of god],” (Romans 8:34). The only person that ever had a right to cast stones at sinners was the sinless Christ. But instead of condemning, He died, rose from the grave and is presently enthroned at God's right hand as Priest and Advocate for God's elect.

Fourth: false teachers cannot permanently deceive the elect. Jesus prophesied of a time period filled with false religion, saying, “For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect.” (Matthew 24:24). “If it were possible” means that it is not possible to deceive the elect! Christ's sheep may be taught error for a time, but they will eventually come to the truth of the Gospel. They were chosen to be saved and shall be saved!

We not only need help every day--but every moment!

   ~  ~  ~  ~

(James Smith, "The Evening Sacrifice; Or, A Help to Devotion" 1859)

"Help me, O Lord my God! O save me according to Your mercy." Psalm 109:26

We not only need help every day--but every moment!

Our weakness is extreme.
Our foes are numerous and mighty.
Our duties are difficult and arduous.
Our dangers are great and imminent.
How, then, shall we be able to stand, to conquer, to overcome?

Our God has said, "I will strengthen you--yes, I will help you; yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of My righteousness!" Blessed be His holy name--He is as good as His Word!
He has helped us in every need.
He has helped us out of every difficulty.
He has helped us all through our journey until this day.
And tonight He is as ready to help us as He ever was.
  His ear is open.
His heart throbs with infinite love to us.
His throne of grace is accessible.
His mercy is rich and free!

With such thoughts as these in our minds, O Lord, we approach You tonight, confessing to Your honor--that you ever have helped us; and now beseeching You to help us quite through the rough journey of life. Help us, O our God . . .
  to conquer our inbred lusts;
  to overcome and crucify the old man;
  to mortify the flesh with its vile affections;
  to overcome this present evil world;
and to tread Satan under our feet.

Help us, as Your chosen people, holy and dearly loved by You--to clothe ourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience; and, above all, love, which is the bond of perfectness. Save, O save us, from all pride, self-sufficiency, high-mindedness, and worldly wisdom.
Make us humble, meek, and deeply spiritual.
Fill us with the spirit of Jesus.
Produce in us the temper of Jesus.
Enable us exactly to copy the example of Jesus.
O make us Christ-like and holy!

"Answer me, O LORD, out of the goodness of your love; turn unto me according to the multitude of Your tender mercies." Psalm 69:16

All that we need drops from His palm!

   ~  ~  ~  ~

(James Smith, "The Evening Sacrifice; Or, A Help to Devotion" 1859)

"The eyes of all look to You--and You give them their food at the proper time. You open your hand, and satisfy the desires of every living thing." Psalm 145:15-16

All our supplies come from God, therefore our dependence should be on Him, and our expectations from Him. Creatures act towards us in kindness and sympathy--according to His direction.

The eyes of all creation are upon the Lord, and all the tribes of His creatures are fed by His hand. How much more, then, should His children look to Him, seek from Him, and expect to be supplied by Him!

Whatever God does--He does wisely and seasonably; and whatever He gives--is in season. When our needs are felt, and our cry is heard--then our supply is certain. It is but for God to open His hand--and all that we need drops from His palm! When God's hand opens--our desires will soon be satisfied. Every temporal mercy, every spiritual gift, and all the supplies needed by our souls--lie in the hand of God for us. He loves for us to fix our eyes on Him, to lift up our voice to Him, and seek every blessing from Him.

Merciful Lord, You have fed us this day. Your loving heart and open hand have supplied all our needs. We gratefully acknowledge Your wondrous goodness, and bless You for Your suitable supplies. And now, O Lord, close up the day with us in mercy--give us a sense of Your forgiving love, and faith in Your protecting care. Help us to cast every care on You, and to fall asleep tonight as on a parent's bosom. Let Your peace pervade us, and inspire us with strong confidence in Your providential protection.

"Behold, as the eyes of slaves look to the hand of their master, as the eyes of a maid look to the hand of her mistress--so our eyes look to the LORD our God, till He shows us His mercy." Psalm 123:2

Daily Promises

Blue Letter Bible
September 14, 2017
But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:19)
God is all-powerful. He is able to provide for every need that meets a believer in his walk with Christ. As humans we often think of "needs" in the light of food, shelter, and physical amenities. However, our "real" needs are spiritual, for our spirit is eternal. Jesus has provided for all of our spiritual needs. As the Apostle Peter says in his second letter:
According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that [pertain] unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue: Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust. (2 Peter 1:3-4)
The Philippians trusted in God's promises, and they gave to the Lord's work out of what little they possessed. Praise God that we can trust in Him for our daily provision of all our needs!

Isaiah 43:2  When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee.

Psalm 37:3-9  Trust in the LORD, and do good; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed.
Delight thyself also in the LORD; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.
Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass.
And he shall bring forth thy righteousness as the light, and thy judgment as the noonday.
Rest in the LORD, and wait patiently for him: fret not thyself because of him who prospereth in his way, because of the man who bringeth wicked devices to pass.
Cease from anger, and forsake wrath: fret not thyself in any wise to do evil.
For evildoers shall be cut off: but those that wait upon the LORD, they shall inherit the earth.

A Thought From our Pastor:

Do You Know The Power Of God?
“What if God, willing to shew his wrath, and to make his power known, endured with much longsuffering the vessels of wrath fitted to destruction:” Romans 9:22

We live in a time when there is much powerful destruction in the world, earthquakes, hurricanes, shootings, etc. etc. etc. The question that is often asked is “where is God”? Well, one thing that is absolutely true is God is Omnipresent or everywhere at one time, no place is ever without God. God is a Spirit; therefore, you might never know God is present unless you just accept the fact that God is Omnipresent. If one truly knew God, and who He is, one might ask this question out of ignorance “where is God”. People look at God with different eyes, some look at God as though He does not exist, some look at God through moral eyes (thinking He is what they think He should be), Some look at God as a weak and insignificant being who depends on us to help Him. But, regardless how one looks at God, and regardless how He may appear in their mind, God is The only true God, and that makes Him Omni-everything. God is all-power, all-knowledge, He is all-holy, and God is all-right in all His doings and choosing of His doings. The first thing one must understand about God is, He answers to no one. People are not counselors to God, He is a Self-Existent Being Whom existed alone before creating everything that exist. Next, one must also understand that whatever God chooses to do, that He will do, regardless to what you might think of it. This leads us to this extremely important point, God is ABSOLUTLY SOVEREIGN, this means (God is a Supreme Being choosing, ordaining, predetermining, and executing His will and pleasure). People must know that if God wants something to be, it will be, regardless to what you might think of it. One must also understand that God owes no creature anything, nor does he owe them an explanation about the things He does. God controls all His creation, even the evil of Satan did God make for His own glory. The issue some people have is they have no idea who God is, they are simply ignorant to God’s Being. I hear people make the most ignorant commits about God, like “I cannot serve a God like that”, or like “my God would never allow that to happen”. Here in our text scripture it says, “What if God, willing to shew his wrath, and to make his power known…” what if God was to make His power known? What if God was an angry with the sinfulness of the world and wanted to make His displeasure know? So why if God was sending some destruction to show us we have gone too far in sinfulness. Would you believe that? Oh, you don’t believe it, your God is not that kind of God, then you do not serve the God of the bible. Folks, God is not who we think He is, God is not who we want Him to be, God is pure Sovereign in His will and purpose. This means God controls everything, read Ecclesiastes chapter 3 and Ephesians chapter 1 and Romans chapter 9. And when you read them stop making excuses for them and believe them. We are simply created beings to be used as God is pleased to use us. If God has predetermined that you die a horrible death then you will, if God has ordained that you live a long glorious life you will. God had predestinated that millions of His own elected children die horrible deaths in what is called the “dark ages” at the hands of Catholicism and others and they did. If you read history, true history, you will find that God’s people have always suffered at the hands of our enemies, why, because God chose for it to be that way. Folks, it God was willing to show His wrath the things we see happening today is nothing compared to what His true wrath is. We must remember God is not a man, He does not think like a man, nor does He do as a man, and no He is not a woman either! God is a Spirit and does at His own choosing, and if you do not accept God as He is then you do not serve the God, one true God that is the God of the bible. John 4:24 “God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.”

Surely, we would not wish them back again!By J.C. Ryle

"I tell you the truth, today you will be with Me in paradise!" Luke 23:43

The very moment that believers die, they are in paradise. Their battle is fought; their strife is over. They have passed through that  gloomy valley which we must one day tread; they have gone over that  dark river which we must one day cross. They have drunk that last bitter cup which sin has mingled for man; they have reached that place where sorrow and sighing are no more! Surely, we would not wish them back again! We should not weep for them — but for ourselves!

We are still warring — but they are at peace!
We are laboring — but they are at rest!
We are watching — but they are sleeping!
We are wearing our spiritual armor — but they have forever put it off!
We are at sea — but they are safe in harbor!
We have tears — but they have joy!
We are strangers and pilgrims — but they are at home!
Surely, better are the "dead in Christ" — than the living! Surely the very hour the poor saint dies — he is at once higher and happier than the happiest upon earth!

The providences of God are often dark and mysterious!

   ~  ~  ~  ~

(James Smith, "The Evening Sacrifice; Or, A Help to Devotion" 1859)

"Your way is in the sea--and Your path is in the great waters. Your footsteps may not be known." Psalm 77:19

The providences of God are often dark and mysterious. It is not easy to ascertain why the Lord acts as He does--or to find out the precise object which He has in view. He carries on His work according to His eternal and pre-ordained plan--and He accomplishes His purposes often by the most unlikely means. He works all things after the counsel of His own will--and He works leisurely, having no cause to hurry. We are naturally hasty, and want to know what God means at once. But He says, "Be still. Wait. Watch. Let patience have her perfect work."

We may not be able to account for our trials, troubles, losses, and crosses--but all will be made plain by-and-by. "Jesus said to him: You do not understand now what I am doing--but you will understand later on." John 13:7

We now know in part--but we shall soon know even as also we are known. And until then, we may well be patient--assured that God is acting wisely, lovingly, and is consulting our good in all that He does.

O wonder-working God, Your dealings with us are often dark, and difficult to be understood! Give us faith to believe Your promises--when we cannot understand Your providences. Let us be assured of Your love to us--when we cannot ascertain the design of Your dealings with us. Preserve us from a repining, complaining, and unbelieving spirit--and grant us grace that we may rest satisfied that You are acting rightly. May we learn, in whatever state we are--therewith to be content. With patience may we do and suffer Your will at present--being fully assured that all will be explained and opened up to us at length. O to be enabled . . .
to rest on Your covenant love,
to trust Your faithful promises, and
to commit all of our ways unto You!

"All the paths of the LORD are mercy and truth--to such as keep His covenant and His testimonies!" Psalm 25:10

I am thankful and praising the Lord this morning for seeing His protection over His children during the storm.
Let us keep on praying for each other during the storms we face no matter what it may be!

Psalm 107:29  He maketh the storm a calm, so that the waves thereof are still.
Mark 4:37-39  And there arose a great storm of wind, and the waves beat into the ship, so that it was now full.
And he was in the hinder part of the ship, asleep on a pillow: and they awake him, and say unto him, Master, carest thou not that we perish?

And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.

Morning Devotional September 9, 2017

James 3:13-18
Who is a wise man and endued with knowledge among you? let him shew out of a good conversation his works with meekness of wisdom. But if ye have bitter envying and strife in your hearts, glory not, and lie not against the truth. This wisdom descendeth not from above, but is earthly, sensual, devilish. For where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work. But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy. And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace of them that make peace.”

Praise ye the Lord!!!
