Faith’s Check Book

By Charles H. Spurgeon

DOING WHAT GOD CAN BLESS

"The Lord shall command the blessing upon thee in thy, storehouses, and in all that thou settest thine hand unto" Deuteronomy 28:8

If we obey the Lord our God He will bless that which He gives us. Riches are no curse when blessed of the Lord. When men have more than they require for their immediate need, and begin to lay up in store-houses, the dry rot of covetousness or the blight of hard-heartedness is apt to follow the accumulation; but with God’s blessing it is not so. Prudence arranges the saving, liberality directs the spending, gratitude maintains consecration, and praise sweetens enjoyment. It is a great mercy to have God’s blessing in one’s iron safe, and on one’s banking account.

What a favor is made ours by the last clause! "The Lord shall bless thee in all that thou settest thine hand unto." We would not put our hand to anything upon which we dare not ask God’s blessing, neither would we go about it without prayer and faith. But what a privilege to be able to look for the Lord’s help in every enterprise! Some talk of a lucky man: the blessing of the Lord is better than luck. The patronage of the great is nothing to the favor of God. Self-reliance is all very well; but the Lord’s blessing is infinitely more than all the fruit of talent, genius, or tact.

Thought’s for the Quiet Hour

He touched the hollow of Jacob’s thigh in the sinew that shrank

Genesis 32:32

Whatever it is that enables a soul, whom God designs to bless, to stand out against Him, God will touch. It may be the pride of wealth, or of influence, or of affection: but it will not be spared—God will touch it. It may be something as natural as a sinew; but if it robs a man of spiritual blessing God will touch it. It may be as small a thing as a sinew; but its influence in making a man strong in his resistance of blessing will be enough to condemn it—and God will touch it. And beneath that touch it will shrink and shrivel, and you will limp to the end of life.

Remember that the sinew never shrinks save beneath the touch of the angel hand—the touch of tender love.

Me last!

(J.C. Pittman, "Bible Truths Illustrated" 1917)

Among the truly popular girls I have known, one stands out preeminently. I never knew one person who did not find her just lovable.

Once during her Sophomore year in high school, a group of her chums were discussing mottoes and naming their favorites. "Hitch your wagon to a star!" and "To the stars through difficulties!" were favored.

Turning to Jessie, someone said, "Haven't you a motto?"

"Yes," she said; "it is this: 'Me last!'"

"What do you mean by that?" the others asked.

"That's my motto, and I think it is a good one."

"But what does it mean?"

Then Jessie explained: "It means just what it says--'me last.' That is, I am to think of myself last. I am to put everyone else ahead of me, and then can look after myself when everybody else is taken care of."

The girls saw, and they knew that right there lay the secret of her popularity.

"Jesus called the Twelve and said: If anyone wants to be first--he must be the very last, and the servant of all." Mark 9:35
"Jesus got up from the meal, took off his outer clothing, and wrapped a towel around His waist. After that, He poured water into a basin and began to wash His disciples' feet, drying them with the towel that was wrapped around Him.""Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet--you also should wash one another's feet. I have given you an example that you should do as I have done for you." John 13:4-5, 14-15

Daily Promises

Blue Letter Bible
November 28, 2016
For the mountains shall depart, and the hills be removed; but my kindness shall not depart from thee, neither shall the covenant of my peace be removed, saith the LORD that hath mercy on thee. (Isaiah 54:10)
God gives this promise to His people-that no matter what happens on this earth, God will always love us and walk beside us. There is nothing that can separate us from the love of God (Romans 8:38-39).

My Prayer: Dear Jesus, I thank You for Your wonderful love for me! Thank you that no matter what happens, Your love will never leave me.

A Thought From our Pastor:

A Believers Liberty In God’s Word."One man esteemeth one day above another: another esteemeth every day alike. Let every man be fully persuaded in his own mind." Romans 14:5

Here in Texarkana, we were blessed to have one of our supported Missionaries to visit us last Wednesday night. Brother Dan Sullivan Missionary in Thailand, Brother Dan brought a study titled “Soul Liberty” which is the base for this article. While I have titled it different is all means the same thing, in fact some people would title it “Christian Freedom”. As Christians we are bound to Gods word, the doctrine or teachings of the bible are facts and cannot be changed for any thought or reason. As Sovereign Grace Baptist we are bound to the doctrines and beliefs of God’s word as has been handed down through history from Jesus Christ until now. Men and women have worked hard, even died to preserve God’s blessed Truths from generation to generation. And we here in the Twenty-First Century must also preserve the truth of the scriptures. It is not doctrine I am speaking of here, but rather the beliefs in God’s word that we differ. I have for years wrote, preached, and begged Christians to be tolerant of one another and our different beliefs. Once again I want to remind all my beloved Family in Christ and especially my beloved Minister Brethren that not a one of us is perfect in our belief of the Scriptures. We are all sinners, and come short of the perfectness of the Holy Scriptures. If any person does not allow room in their thoughts for error, then that person might as well stop their learning of God’s Holy Word. The fact is we are all subject to error and we must all allow each other room for error. Remembering our own frames and how fragile we truly are. I agree with Brother Sullivan when he said the Baptist Doctrine are fact and unmovable and any true Baptist will believe them and stand on them, and they are not subject to argument any more. However, there are some interpretation of the scriptures that are debatable because of the way you and I might interpret them. God said "Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation...For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost." 2 Peter 1:20 - 21 meaning man did not write the word of God, but were writing as God moved them. It is God’s word and therefore it is exactly what God wants it to be. We as Believers or churches cannot change it and make it a private interpretation. Sometimes we will find things in the bible that you will see one way and I will see another way, but who is right, you or me? Here in Romans the subject is about whether Christians can eat meat or should we abstain from meat. God answered in verse 3 "Let not him that eateth despise him that eateth not; and let not him which eateth not judge him that eateth: for God hath received him." Do not offend each other, because you are not the judge of your brother or sister, but of God. Folks, the truth is there are some things that we are going to interpret in the scriptures that others see another way. As Christians and church members we must allow for error on both sides. Beloved, this is a fact, if I separated myself from every Christian I disagreed with on something scriptural, then I would most likely be alone. God said we are to be acceptant of one another, because you are not the judge of what is right or wrong, God is. Please allow me to ask this question, if by chance you are wrong on something and you chastised another believer, or withdrew fellowship from another brother because of this non-doctrine difference, how will you feel when you stand before Jesus Christ to find out that you were wrong?  As “A Believers Liberty In God’s Word” is allowed freedom to their interpretation of God’s word, and still be able to worship and serve together as Saints of God. If you judge another Christians beliefs as though there is no room for error on both sides, then you will be judged by Jesus Christ the very same way. God told us two very important things when we judge another believer, “Judge not, and ye shall not be judged: condemn not, and ye shall not be condemned: forgive, and ye shall be forgiven:" Luke 6:37 and "Judge not according to the appearance, but judge righteous judgment." John 7:24 Brother things that are of private interpretation are just that and should be just that and nothing more. I have personally had a couple of brethren whom I love withdraw fellowship from me because they disagree on a private interpretation of a non-doctrinal issue. They will account before Jesus Christ for their intolerance of “A Believers Liberty In God’s Word.” May God be merciful to them in judgement. Beloved it is ok for you to see a scripture one way and I see it another, we are not perfect Theologians of the scripture. Even our beloved first churches did not see everything perfect. There were many errors in the Lords first churches, and we still error today. Now for this final thought, we are not God’s policemen. God did not appoint us to police the belief of other Christians or church members. And the reason He did not is because there is only one single perfect being and His name is Jehovah, and we know Him as Jesus the Christ. Paul finished this thought in Romans chapter 14 with these words, “So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God.” Romans 14:12 Brethren, you do not have to account for me before God, I do. Allow room for error because the error might actually be on your part and not mine. Let them that eat meat eat it, and those that eat herbs eat them, it’s ok, we still worship, pray, study, and learn together in Christ. “He that regardeth the day, regardeth it unto the Lord; and he that regardeth not the day, to the Lord he doth not regard it. He that eateth, eateth to the Lord, for he giveth God thanks; and he that eateth not, to the Lord he eateth not, and giveth God thanks.” Romans 14:6 Let us all worship together and work together, for we are small as it is in this world, and let us not quarrel over little things. Again, while the doctrine of the church has been handed down from Jesus, Paul, Peter, and etc., not everything we believe is Baptist church doctrine. Let us all love one another and study together to show ourselves approved to God, we are only here for a short time and we must hand down a unified loving church to our next generation. We must ask ourselves, what kind of a church attitude are we handing down? What kind of an example are you personally handing down? Is it godly?

Our Religion Must Cost Us Something!
George Everard, "Shine as Lights!" 1882

"If any man will come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily and follow Me." Luke 9:23

Every Christian must be a cross-bearer. There is no escaping this. "Whoever does not carry his cross and come after Me, cannot be My disciple." Luke 14:27

We must be willing to suffer for Christ's sake; we must crucify self and the flesh; we must be willing to perform unpleasant duties, and make sacrifices of things we might like to retain.

These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world. (John 16:33)
Ours is a life of struggles, of hardship. Daily we feel the earthly futility of that curse brought low upon us by that first sinful act of Adam. Sorrow is the constant companion of all who dwell in the earth. The world is at odds with us and will ever seek to trample us under foot. If the world is against us, then who can possible be for us? Take heart, O believer, for the Lord is with you-and if the Lord is for you, how can anyone possibly stand against you? Christ has overcome the world and even now reigns upon the throne of His heavenly city. Rejoice in your citizenship in the kingdom of God and go boldly into the world proclaiming His peace making men of all tongues to be disciples of Him!

He may be your emperor--but he is my father!

~  ~  ~  ~
(J.C. Pittman, "Bible Truths Illustrated" 1917)

A Roman emperor, after a successful military campaign, was returning in triumph to Rome. Great throngs filled the city to welcome the mighty hero. While passing through one of the crowded thoroughfares, a little girl, wild with joy, dashed toward his chariot.

The officer stopped her and said: "That is the chariot of the emperor, and you must not attempt to reach him."

The little one replied: "He may be your emperor--but he is my father!" In a moment she was not only in the chariot, but also in the arms of her father.

It is even so with true believers. While God is the Emperor of all men--He is that, and infinitely more, to us--He is our Father!

"This, then, is how you should pray: Our Father in Heaven . . ." Matthew 6:9

Be thankful in all circumstances

   ~  ~  ~  ~
"Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you who belong to Christ Jesus." 1 Thessalonians 5:18
   ~  ~  ~  ~
In all circumstances! This comes as a surprise when one considers the vicissitudes of human life. Sickness and health, poverty and wealth, joy and sorrow--are all ingredients of the cup placed to human lips--so all must come within the scope of thanksgiving. Why be thankful for everything? Because God causes everything to work together for good to those who love Him.

A godly farmer was asked to dine with a well-known gentleman. While there, he asked a blessing at the table as he was accustomed to do at home. His host said jeeringly, "That is old fashioned; it is not customary nowadays for well-educated people to pray before they eat."

The farmer answered that with him it was customary--but that some of those on his farm never thanked God their food.

"Ah, then," said the gentleman, "they are sensible and enlightened! Who are they?"

"My pigs!" the farmer answered.

Charles Dickens said that we are somewhat mixed up here in America. He told an audience that instead of having one Thanksgiving Day each year, we should have 364. "Use that one day just for complaining and griping," he said. "Use the other 364 days to thank God each day for the many blessings He has showered upon you!"

Some years ago an old black woman was put up at auction at a slave-market. She was distressed lest she might be sold to a cruel master. A godly man bought her and set her free at once. But she would not leave him who had set her free--and insisted upon going into his household and working for him. Now when she could do what she pleased--she would not go anywhere but to him. She would say: "He saved me! He saved me!"
This is how we ought to feel toward Him who died for us and set us free.

Do you not teach your children to say "Thank you" for what they receive? Even the baby, before it can speak, is made to utter a "ta"--an expression of gratitude for what it is given. Giving thanks always and for everything

"Giving thanks always and for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ!" Ephesians 5:20

One day, Johann Tauler of Strosbourg met a peasant and greeted him, "God give you a good day, my friend!"

The peasant answered briskly, "I thank God that I never have a bad day!"

Tauler, astonished, kept silent for a moment. Tauler then added, "God give you a happy life, my friend."

The peasant replied composedly, "I thank God that I am never unhappy!"

"Never unhappy!" cried Tauler bewildered, "What do you mean?"

"Well," came the reply, "When it is sunshine--I thank God; and when it rains--I thank God. When I have plenty--I thank God; and when I am hungry--I thank God. Since God's will is my will, and whatever pleases God pleases me--I am never unhappy."

Tauler looked upon him with awe. "Who are you?" he asked.

"I am a king!" said the peasant.

"A king?" Tauler asked, "Where is your kingdom?"

The peasant smiled and whispered softly, "In my heart!"

I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me. (Philippians 4:13)
When Paul wrote that he could do all things through Christ, we have to understand it in light of his circumstances. Paul declares that he could find contentment (and even joy) in every situation. Though we may not be in the most desirable place, we should find contentment and joy, knowing that Christ will give us the strength to get through anything.

NO CONDEMNATION

"In those days, and in that time, saith the Lord, the iniquity of Israel shall be sought for, and there shall be none; and the sins of Judah, and they shall not be found: for I will pardon them whom I reserve" Jeremiah 50:20

A glorious word indeed! What a perfect pardon is here promised to the sinful nations of Israel and Judah! Sin is to be so removed that it shall not be found, so blotted out that there shall be none. Glory be unto the God of pardons!

Satan seeks out sins wherewith to accuse us, our enemies seek them that they may lay them to our charge, and our own conscience seeks them even with a morbid eagerness. But when the Lord applies the precious blood of Jesus, we fear no form of search, for "there shall be none," "they shall not be found." The Lord hath caused the sins of His people to cease to be: He hath finished transgression, and made an end of sin. The sacrifice of Jesus has cast our sins into the depths of the sea. This makes us dance for joy.

The reason for the obliteration of sin lies in the fact that Jehovah Himself pardons His chosen ones. His word of grace is not only royal, but divine. He speaks absolution, and we are absolved. He applies the atonement, and from that hour His people are beyond all fear of condemnation. Blessed be the name of the sin-annihilating God!

THE OUTWARD, UPWARD LOOK

"Look unto me, and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth; for I am God, and there is none else" Isaiah 45:22

This is a promise of promises. It lies at the foundation of our spiritual life. Salvation comes through a look at Him who is "a just God and a Saviour." How simple is the direction! "Look unto me." How reasonable is the requirement! Surely the creature should look to the Creator. We have looked elsewhere long enough, it is time that we look alone to Him who invites our expectation, and promises to give us His salvation.

Only a look! Will we not look at once? We are to bring nothing in ourselves, but to look outward and upward to our Lord on His throne, whither He has gone up from the cross. A look requires no preparation, no violent effort: it needs neither wit nor wisdom, wealth nor strength. All that we need is in the Lord our God, and if we look to Him for everything, that everything shall be ours, and we shall be saved.

Come, far-off ones, look hither! Ye ends of the earth, turn your eyes this way! As from the furthest regions men may see the sun and enjoy his light, so you who lie in death’s borders at the very gates of hell may by a look receive the light of God, the life of Heaven, the salvation of the Lord Jesus Christ, who is God, and therefore able to save.

Thought’s for the Quiet Hour

I … heard behind me a great voice, as of a trumpet, saying … Write

Rev. 1:10, 11

It is very sweet to note that a voice from Heaven said to John, “Write.” Does not that voice come to us? Are there not those who would taste the joys of Heaven if we wrote them words of forgiveness and affection? Are there not others who would dry their tears if we would remind them of past joys, when we were poor as they are now? Nay, could not some, who read these plain words, place inside the envelope something bearing their signature which would make the widow’s heart dance for joy?

What is our pen doing? Is it adding joy to other men’s lives? If so, then angels may tune their harps when we sit at our desk. They are sent to minister to the heirs of salvation, and would be glad to look upon our pen as writing music for them to sing, because what we write makes their client’s joy to be full.

Short pithy gems from Arthur Pink

The nature of Christ's salvation is woefully misrepresented by the present-day evangelist. He announces a Savior from Hell--rather than a Savior from sin. And that is why so many are fatally deceived, for there are multitudes who wish to escape the Lake of fire--who have no desire to be delivered from their carnality and worldliness.

A Thought From our Pastor:

Frustrating God  “He therefore that despiseth, despiseth not man, but God, who hath also given unto us his holy Spirit.”
1 Thessalonians 4:8

This week we want to look again at the word “frustrate” taken from Galatians 2:21 where Paul wrote "I do not frustrate the grace of God..." that is, he will not render the grace of God worthless or bring it to naught by saying that salvation is by works. Because it cannot be by both works and grace because one makes the other worthless. This week we see the word “despiseth” which is the same Greek word as frustrate. Here Paul writes that “He therefore that despiseth, despiseth not man, but God…” Despising God here is disobeying what God commands. When Christians disobey God’s word they are not despising or rendering man’s words worthless, but rather God’s. Your Pastor does not preach, nor did the Apostle Paul write our own words but the words of God, therefore to render them useless by disobeying them is to frustrate God. See God is Sovereign and when people do not recognize God as Sovereign then they in reality render God useless. People who does not recognize His word as His Own Sovereign Word, then they fail to recognize His authority. It is the same in salvation, when men make-up their own salvation then it renders God’s salvation as worthless, therefore rendering God useless. God designed salvation to bring Himself and His Son Jesus The Christ glory. Therefore, every time a sinner is saved then the Angels in heaven rejoice in their praise to God because He has graciously saved a sinner. This giving all glory to God, The Father, Son, and Holy Spirit for their miraculous act in combining to save a sinner. Now let us explore some ways that God is frustrated or rendered useless by Christians, churches, and Pastors, today. When God is taken out of salvation then God is no longer needed in order for a sinner to be saved. In other words, if a Preacher is good at convincing a sinner to choose to repent and the sinner makes that decision, then who is to be praised? Why would the Angels in heaven rejoice over that? They are created to praise God, not man. Ah, then in this type of salvation the sinner and the Preacher are to be praised and not God. God said in Romans 1:24 "Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves:" because they no longer worship God, but themselves leaving God out of salvation altogether. According to them their salvation is to their praise and glory because God had nothing to do with it, rendering Him useless. God said in Romans 1:25Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.” Now if you look at real salvation everything praises God, The Father chooses and predestinated everything, The Son died to furnish the sin cleansing blood, and the Holy Spirit delivers salvation to the sinner, this renders man useless instead of God. See God is King in all things and this is a truth some people have forgotten, refused to believe, or simply have ignored this truth. God said that salvation “…it is not of him that willeth, nor of him that runneth, but of God that sheweth mercy.” Romans 9:16 Therefore God saves whomever He chooses. See, God has that right since He is the creator of all things, He has the right to make a vessel unto honor like Jacob, and one unto dishonor like Esau, whether man likes it or not. Romans 9:21 “Hath not the potter power over the clay, of the same lump to make one vessel unto honour, and another unto dishonour?” Rendering God useless in salvation is rendering man’s salvation worthless. God saves sinners and man has nothing to do with it. God blesses us in allowing us to preach the gospel, but God saves sinners and He does not need man to get it done. Therefore, while so many render God useless we as Sovereign Grace Baptist praise God and we render man useless. God needs no one to accomplish His will.

LOOKING FOR MY FREE WILL
By Curtis Pugh

I keep hearing about this thing they call free will. I can't find mine. True, I have a will, but it is a part of me and my heart – desires and emotions – are evil. The prophet wrote in Jeremiah 17:9, “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?” My will is to act according to my heart. I sin because it is my will to sin. If my will was free from my nature I could will to stop sinning and do so, but I cannot.

I have studied the Bible for many years and talked to many people about this thing called free will. None of them have been able to show me even one verse in the Bible that says that we humans have a free will. I cannot find such a verse either. And since I am not the only one who commits sin, I think it must be that everyone has a “deceitful” and “wicked” heart as the verse quoted above says.

Jesus said to some very religious people, “O generation of vipers, how can ye, being evil, speak good things? for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh,” (Matthew 12:34). Another place the Lord said, “For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies,” (Matthew 15:19). So while I may want to do what is right, my will is not free from my heart and I still sin.

Since I cannot remember having a free will, I do not remember losing it. It seems to me that Adam and Eve had free wills because they were created in untested holiness. So I think Adam must have lost free will for himself and all his posterity in his fall.

Jesus said: “Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me. And ye will not come to me, that ye might have life,” (John 5:39-40). The people to whom Jesus spoke these words had a problem. They did not have a will to come to Christ. And not having a free will to enable them to come in a saving way to Him, they could not come because their will was bound to their heart. That is why Jesus said, “No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day,” (John 6:44).

If anyone can tell me how to get a free will, I would be glad to hear from them. If you know of anyone who has a free will, or if you have a free will, please tell me how you know your will is free from your evil heart. A person who has a free will and is therefore sinless should be able to tell me how they got their free will and should no longer sin.

I am not what I ought to be. Ah! How imperfect and deficient!
I am not what I wish to be. I would abhor what is evil, and cleave to what is good.
I am not what I hope to be. Soon, soon, I shall put off mortality--and with mortality, all sin and imperfection.
Yet, though I am not what I ought to be, nor what I wish to be, nor what I hope to be--I can truly say that I am not what I once was--a slave to sin and Satan. And I can heartily join with the apostle, and acknowledge, "By the grace of God, I am what I am!"

Morning Devotional November 13th

Acts 14:7

“And there they preached the gospel.”

What is our main duty as members of the Lord's churches? In Matthew, Mark and Luke Jesus told His church to preach the gospel. Beginning in Jerusalem then going out into the whole world. In John He told Peter to feed the sheep. Why? So they would be equipped to preach the gospel to the whole world.
Down through the ages God's churches have spread the gospel to the whole world. Everywhere they were established they preached the gospel. His churches have sent missionaries all over the world spreading the gospel of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and teaching their members to do the same.
Yet today in our own land we find ourselves to busy for this great commandment. We seek after the things of this world. We live in a time where God's people trust more in their leaders and their sports heroes than they do the God of their salvation.
Our lavish life styles have become more meaningful to us than spreading the gospel to a lost and dying world. We have lost our compassion for the lost souls of God's elect. We have become what our forefathers, not long ago, preached against. What a shame to our Heavenly Father we have become. What blasphemy we commit on a daily bases.
We are at a time where persecutions and tribulations seem to be just around the corner for the churches. Yet we clamor to be accepted by the world. All because we are afraid of loosing our worldly possessions. We are afraid of not being accepted by our piers in this life. We are afraid of what our life will become if we make a stand.
O child of God, look up!!! Our redemption draweth nigh!!! Place your thoughts and faith on things above and not things here in this life. Our Lord is our Salvation not the things of this world!!! Pray without ceasing!!! Turn to the one who has given you eternal salvation!!! Praise the God for His goodness and mercy on us and when trials and tribulations come praise Him even more!!!

Praise ye the Lord!!!

A Thought From our Pastor:

Frustrating Jesus Christ.John 12:48 “He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day.”

Last week we looked at “Frustrating The Grace Of God”. We learned last week that the word “Frustrating” has many differing definitions which all lead to the definition - to reject, - it is also like, to set aside, disannul, bring to nought. The ugliest definition is “bring to nought” which is what is done when Salvation by grace is rejected for any sort of works on our part. God boldly said salvation cannot be of both works and grace because one cancels the other out. Romans 4:4 - 5 "Now to him that worketh is the reward not reckoned of grace, but of debt…But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness." In our text scripture John 12:48 it says “He that rejecteth me…” the word “reject” is the identical Greek word as Frustrating in Galatians 2:2. So you might ask “how does one render Jesus Christ disannulled or bring Him to nought? Well, Jesus answered that question in John 12:48 “He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words…”. By rejecting Jesus Christ as Saviour one is making Him worthless to themselves. If Jesus Christ has no true value to you as Saviour then He serves no purpose to you. It is the same with God’s grace, either it is everything in bringing you to your salvation or nothing. God promised that Jesus Christ would come and save sinners “…thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.” Matthew 1:21 God also promised that "...being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him." Romans 5:9 Since this is true then we must also believe that salvation is in Him and Him alone because Jesus Christ said it absolutely was. "Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me." John 5:39 Why would they testify of Him and not our works, because He is salvation, and Him alone. The way one can frustrate Jesus Christ is exactly the way they frustrate God’s grace, they render it useless through false thinking in works. If one truly examines the scriptures, they cannot determine that works have any place in salvation at all. Salvation is not Grace and works and salvation is not Jesus and works, otherwise both grace and Jesus are rendered totally useless. This is properly defined in   Ephesians 2:8 - 9 "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God...Not of works, lest any man should boast." If salvation is of Grace and through Jesus Christ, then nothing else belongs in it. What else could be a part of it? Pastors and Ministers frustrate both grace and Jesus Christ every single time they preach that works, any sort of works have any part in salvation. This is God’s record, recorded in His word, and to deny it is to deny God’s word and truth. God sent His Son to seek and to save and this mission has nothing to do with the efforts of man and his works. If you are saved, truly saved, then you were saved by God’s wonderful grace and through His Wonderful Son Jesus Christ. Paul summed this all up in his letter to the church as Rome in Romans 3:24 - 25 “Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus...Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;”

The Sword of God's TruthBy Arthur Pink

"Their speech is filled with flattery." Psalm 5:9

This is the identifying mark of the "hireling," the false pastor. He aims at pleasing his hearers, making them feel satisfied with themselves, ever patting them on the back.

"But he who has My Word—let him speak My Word faithfully" (Jeremiah 23:28), no matter how unpalatable it may be to the flesh, how much of a weariness to those who wish to have their ears tickled with novelties, or how loud the outcry against it is!

Ministerial faithfulness includes loyalty to his Master, devotion to His interests, steadfast adherence to the preaching of His Word, dispensing the Truth unto those whose souls are committed to Him—not mixing it with his speculations, much less substituting false doctrine. A far higher motive than the pleasing of his hearers must actuate and regulate ministerial service. Faithful preaching will render the minister unpopular, and will 'empty' churches—not 'fill' them!

"Then you will know the Truth, and the Truth will set you free." (John 8:32) Souls are caught fast in the meshes of Satan's lies—and nothing but the sword of God's Truth can cut them free!

"A faithful man—who can find?" (Proverbs 20:6). Why is this? Because it is the part of fallen human nature to take the line of least resistance, and choose the path easiest to the flesh. But remember, my reader, whoever you are, that, "Lying lips are abomination to the Lord; but those who deal 'faithfully' are His delight." (Proverbs 12:22)

"Be faithful unto death—and I will give you a crown of life!" (Revelation 2:10)

What Would Jesus Do?

If at any time you are in any perplexity as to what to do, simply ask the question—"What would Jesus do?" Ask God by His Holy Spirit to show you what Jesus would do. Study your Bible to find out what Jesus did do—and follow Him.

"I have given you an example to follow." John 13:15

"Leaving you an example, so that you should followin His steps." 1 Peter 2:21
