The Last Enemy Destroyed

From the Pastor: Dr. M. J. Seymour, Sr.

“Then cometh the end, when he shall have delivered up the kingdom to God, even the Father; when he shall have put down all rule and all authority and power. For he must reign, till he hath put all enemies under his feet. The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death.(I Cor. 15:24-26)

The word “death” in this passage refers to the death of the body. The last enemy that we shall all face is the death of the body. The account given here is not in reference to the “second death” that will face all of those who have not been redeemed by the blood of the Lamb at the Great White Throne of judgment. This text refers only to bodily death, that is, the fullness of sin in the flesh causing it to cease its earthly existence. It is that enemy that haunts every individual that has ever been or ever will be born into this world. That which is born of the flesh shall die because of the flesh. It is our constant cursed companion from birth to the grave. It is the ultimate undefeated enemy of this world. This dark heartless enemy possesses not even a thread of compassion for everybody is consumed with the ravage of its hunger. It knows no mercy. It cares not whose lives are devastated, and is no respecter of age.

Yet, the King of kings and the Lord of lords has no fear of the claws of Death for He has looked him square in the eyes and has overcome all power that Death could conjure up. Death has no power over His Majesty on High. The Lord shall face all enemies in their time, but this one named Death has a designated rank and place. He is the ultimate weapon under Satan’s command, but it is not match for the Word of God when His two edged sword goes forth in divine power. The flesh of sin is no obstacle for Death’s mighty breath, but the Lord of Glory is not made of sinful flesh; He is Spirit and He is power and none can stay His hand.

Death has dealt a mighty blow to all of our lives, but Death has a date in the end of time with our Master. Death is our last enemy of life, thus, our Redeemer has reserved him for the last to be conquered, and conquered he shall be. “Then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory. O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory?” (I Cor. 15:54-55) The last enemy will be destroyed for the Lord cometh!!!
