Someone To Stand In The Gap

From the Pastor:  Dr. M. J. Seymour, Sr.

“And I sought for a man among them, that should make up the hedge, and stand in the gap before me for the land, that I should not destroy it: but I found none.” (Ez. 22:30)

It is not the many but the few.  It is not the youthful brawn or the aged graying of the hair.  It is not the too busy or the too idle.  It is not the dreamer or the empty of heart.  It is the embolden spirit, the resolve of conscience, the courageous backbone, and the sanctified loyalty to the Sovereign God of the heaven and the heaven of heavens.  It is the lionhearted of the Good Shepherd’s sheep.

The “gap” is that crumbling section of the wall and the deteriorating area of defense in the “Cause of Christ Jesus”.  It is the outer perimeter neglected and abandoned by deserters of duty.  The breach in the watchmen’s wall is not by the strength of the enemy but by the weakness of the defenders.  Many have left their post for the love of the world and self gratification.  The gap in the defense of holy things broadens in proportion to the gulf fixed between lust of self and sanctification in Christ Jesus.

Brethren, it ought not to be so!  Apostle Paul exhorted: “Watch ye, stand fast in the faith, quit you like men, be strong.” (I Cor. 16:13)  The word “quit” has the idea of “behave”.  Paul in essence is saying, “Stay spiritually awake, put some backbone in your defense of the faith, stop being a gathering of whimpers and start behave like men, be a stronghold in the Kingdom of God.  Do not be a weak link.”  The wall has become like a rubber band – all wiggly flexing the perimeter to the whims and advantage of the enemies of God.

Brethren, is this not disgraceful?  Must the walls be unmanned because of apathy, lack of holy separation, and abandoned godly consecration?  Where are those who possess the hardened shields of faith?  Who will hear the bellowing of David: “Is there not a cause?”  How long shall the deterioration of heavenly valor go unanswered?  Who will consecrate themselves to God and fill the gaps before us?
