From the Pastor: Dr. M. J. Seymour, Sr.
“…the
wall of Jerusalem also is broken down, and the gates thereof are burned
with fire. And it came to pass, when I heard these words, that I sat
down and wept, and mourned certain days, and fasted, and prayed before the God of heaven.” (Nehemiah 1:3b-4)
When
the fountains of living grace gush from the wells of heavenly salvation
flooding away the agonies of desperation with eternal hope, what can
hush the unspeakable
joys? I fear empty faithless humanism has lured many a poor saint to
the brink of the abyss. As I gaze into the eyes of many I encounter
such grave loneliness; love for the cause of Christ and His churches is
expelled by a whorish love for this present world. O that God would
awaken the hearts of His people for the love of His Holy Name!!!
The
prophet Nehemiah’s shattered soul was distraught with the state of
affairs in Jerusalem. Jerusalem – the Temple upon the mount of which
God said: “Now mine eyes shall be open, and mine ears attent unto the
prayer that is made in this place. For now have I chosen and sanctified this house, that my name may be there for
ever: and mine eyes and mine heart shall be there perpetually.” (II Chron. 7:15-16) Yet,
are not the churches of the living God of more value? It is written:
“…the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood.” (Acts 20:28b) Is
that which is purchased with the very blood of God to be deemed a
worthless thing? Is His blood to be trodden under foot? The walls are
crumbling and the sheep are scattered to the winds; yet, there no
mourning for His churches.
O
that God would grant us the wrenching anguishes of Nehemiah! What
would become of His churches if holy love overwhelmed blood bought
souls? What would the spirits of His people become at the opening of
the flood gates of passion for the love God and Christ Jesus? It must
be utter criminality in the eyes of God to behold the cold hearts, dry
eyes, and unbending knees of those that claim to be the sons of the
living God. God save us!!!
