From the Pastor: Dr. M. J. Seymour, Sr.
“And he said, Therefore said I unto you, that no man can come unto me, except it were given unto him of my Father. From that time many of his disciples went back, and walked no more with him. Then said Jesus unto the twelve, Will ye also go away?” (Jn.6:65-67)
Chapter six of the Gospel of John is absolutely a wonderful portion of Holy Scripture if you have that desire to learn from the Father. If not, then it is not so great for you; and you will be like many who followed Jesus until He started teaching. It is said of them: “Many therefore of his disciples, when they had heard this, said, This is a hard saying; who can hear it? When Jesus knew in himself that his disciples murmured at it, he said unto them, Doth this offend you?” (Jn. 6:60-61) It is simply amazing how many “Bible Students” are shocked, dismayed, and offended in its teachings. What most do not understand is that the Bible is not a pick-and-choose book; it is an all-or-nothing book. Thus saith the LORD; it is forever settled in the heavens; hence, one will either believe it all and remain, or he will be offended at portions and leave in unbelief. There is no middle ground; one must accept all or have none of it.
Apostle Peter answered the Lord, “to whom shall we go? Thou hast the words of eternal life.” (Jn.6:68) The “unlearned” Peter knew what the intellects of this world cannot fathom; Jesus is the only one who has the words that lead to eternal life. The Psalmist wrote: “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.” How sweet it is in truth to have a clear direction in the way we must go! However, the Psalmist also wrote: “…I hate every false way.” (Ps. 119:105,104) Why did he hate them so? Every false way escorts those that turn away from the true way of Jesus to the eternal lake of fire and brimstone. There is no hope out of the way set by Jesus.
The Bread of Life gives eternal life, the Messiah was cut off but has budded and is alive forevermore, the covenant of God is in Jesus, and the Father is upon the mercyseat. Will you also go away?
