A Thought From Our Pastor:
“Perilous Times”2 Timothy 3:1 “This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.”
The Lord said “in the last days” that is just before the return of the Lord Jesus Christ. I cannot say and neither can anyone else say when the Lord Jesus Christ is going to return; however He is going too. It is also a fact that “perilous times shall come” before His return. Perilous Times means - hard times – as most have it defined but the actual Greek definition it - The idea of reducing the strength; difficult, that is, dangerous times. – I know that the coming of the Lord has been preached for the last 2000 years plus a few; ever since Jesus ascended to heaven we have been expecting Him to return and rapture His beloved saints out and take them home. Everyone from the Apostle Paul to myself and to those that are saved younger than I hope to see the coming of the Lord. This is something I can guarantee; He is coming back! However before He does things must have been fulfilled and this “perilous times” must come to pass. In order to understand how bad it must get before the Lords return is unknown but we do know for sure it will get bad because we as a world of people have lived through some pretty hard times and it must get worse than that. Everything we can find in the scriptures from “men shall be lovers of their own selves”; to “scoffers, walking after their own lusts,” to “even now are there many antichrists whereby we know that it is the last time.” We have had the famine in the land; we have had the floods, hurricanes, and other weather related sufferings; but something is missing and we have no idea what is it. This I also know, if it has not yet come it must be a bad one, times that will be worse than any other of all times. This I also know, once these “Perilous Times” have come and gone it only gets worse from there. Most people that go to church every Sunday have no idea of the bruit punishment that God can and will bring upon this lost and evil generation. People that attend church every Sunday have no idea that God controls all things today and forever. When the storms hit the lands as Sandy’s furry did man likes to thing that God just could not stop it but the truth be known God controls it. It is God who sends famine to our lands and we deserve it all and more. But “Christians” today like today to sit in their fancy church houses thinking that God would never do such a thing, but they have no idea what God can do and will do. God said that before Jesus Christ returns there will be “Perilous Times” and while this is a warning but it is also a promise. We can not live like “untamable beast” and expect God to bless us. I am not saying the folks that havoc which was brought by Sandy was earned only by them, but it belongs to us all; mankind are all heathen and deserve Gods wrath. This; along with all the other “Perilous Times” we have as a people deserved. The tribulation period will not be an undeserved wrath but rather very deserved. From the time Jesus left until today God has sent perilous times on us all for He promised “That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust. Matthew 5:45 so all the famine to date has been for us all but one day true wrath will come and we will not see it here on this earth but rather from above. “Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.” Romans 5:9 but those left behind will suffer tribulation as has never been seen before and God will deliver every ounce of His fury on this world of people. Folks there are only one way of escape from Gods upcoming wrath, the true perilous times and that is through Jesus Christ. John 14:6 “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.”
For Our Weekly Meditation:
The Joy of the LORD
“…for the joy of the LORD is your strength.” (Neh. 8:10)
As Ezra and Nehemiah taught the people and caused them to understand the Word of God read unto them, the people began to mourn and weep “when they heard the words of the law.” Now, there are two primary thoughts in this – conviction and rejoicing. When the Word of God goes forth it always goes with power; we may not perceive it, but God’s Word is eternally in all circumstances incased in the authoritative power and the dynamic power of God. It always brings forth conviction now and/or before the judgment seat of God, and if in power it produces godly sorrow unto repentance, it is adorned with spirit-filled rejoicing. Joy, joy down in the heart!
Conviction over breaking the law of God may or may not lead unto salvation. Multitudes hear the Word of God and are saddened that they are found guilty before Him, but they find no heart or desire to repent of their sins and come into a right relationship with the eternal God. Most get over this conviction very quickly by some thought process that soothes their conscience. As a result, they are found sealed in their condemnation before the Judgment Throne.
To us who have been sought out by saving grace and saved to the uttermost through the blood of Christ Jesus the Word of God is most precious. This new birth gushes forth a fountain within us that is overflowing with joy unspeakable and full of glory engulfed in the Holy Spirit of God. It is forced out of the wells of salvation as lava is spued from the mouth of an erupting volcano. It cannot be contained; it must come forth with tremendous heavenly power.
The word “strength” contains the thought of a fortified place for safe haven. The sons of God always have a safe haven to flee to in the midst of this chaotic world. When all the perils of this life compress about us we have a place of retreat and renewal – the joy of the LORD. Knowing we are secure in the eternally fortified hand of the Father will gush forth heavenly joy to strengthen weak knees.
