A Thought From Our Pastor:
The Father Care.Matthew 10:30 "But the very hairs of your head are all numbered."
When speaking of a Fathers care there is none that is more wonderful than that of God's. While our earthly fathers try so much to supply their children with so much, to bless them with protection, housing, clothing, education, fulfilling wishes and wants, and etc, etc, etc, they simply cannot fulfill their total care. An earthly father's love, while it is meant to be unconditional, it simply cannot be. Moreover, while an earthly fathers love and grace is wonderful in many ways, it is no match for our Heavenly Father's love and care. There is a reason for this and it is because your Heavenly Father knows everything there is to know about you. He knows how many hairs are on your head because He put them there. He knows all your needs and the difference between needs and wants and wishes. He knows what is truly on your heart instead of what you simply say is on it. He knows when your heart is broken, and why is it broken. He knows what you have need of before you ever ask, and He knows what He will do to help you before you ask. The scripture has concluded, "Known unto God are all his works from the beginning of the world." Acts 15:18 it is simply amazing what our Heavenly Father indeed does know about us.
The thought in this passage of our text scripture is not fear anyone but God. We as His children never need to fear the world and its ability to destroy us in every way possible. God told us "And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell." Matthew 10:28 Peter and John certainly understood this when they were "...perceived that they were unlearned and ignorant men..." Acts 4:13 these men were not unlearned or ignorant but rather most intelligent because they had learned to obey God rather than man. The world may kill the body but they cannot kill the soul or spirit. In addition, we must remember God is going to glorify that old body with a new one soon and you will not need the old one again.
A Fathers care means total care, it means He knows everything you need and can supply total care for you. Sometimes things happen in life that we do not understand, a disaster happens, a death comes about, one looses a job, real heart ache or suffering come, it seems like God has turned His head from you, and we ask ourselves as Christ did on the cross "...My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?" Matthew 27:46 but be assured dear Christian HE HAS NOT "...I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee." Hebrews 13:5 this is why we need not covet for our own self-love and passion but rather give way to Gods will. The big question so widely asked in times of turmoil, why? The only answer is it was Gods pleasure! In addition, most of the time it is hard for even the most devote believer to simply accept. We ask why was it His pleasure? God has a reason for every purpose He brings about, and He controls our destiny and He has total care over us. This is how Peter and John followed the Lord instead of fearing the government. This is how millions upon millions watched as their families were martyred while they waited their turn. They trusted God rather than asking why, or looking for an easy way out. We as Christians must trust God, we all must trust in our Fathers care over us, we must learn (even as hard as it may be to understand) that what ever happens in this life (while sometimes very painful) is God will and pleasure for us. Our Fathers Care is not temporal or lacking strength, but is most wonderful to us. Do not forget His ability in caring for us. HE LOVES US ALL.
A Thought For The Week:
John Newton's Tombstone.
In his old age, when he could no longer see to read, John Newton, the author of "Amazing Grace" heard someone recite this verse, "By the grace of God--I am what I am." 1 Corinthians 15:10. He remained silent a short time, and then said:
I am not what I ought to be. Ah! how imperfect and deficient.
I am not what I might be, considering my privileges and opportunities.
I am not what I wish to be. God, who knows my heart--knows I wish to be like Him.
I am not what I hope to be. Before long, I will drop this clay tabernacle, to be like Him and see Him as He is!
Yet, I am not what I once was--a child of sin, and slave of the devil!
Though not all these--not what I ought to be, not what I might be, not what I wish or hope to be, and not what I once was--I think I can truly say with the apostle, "By the grace of God--I am what I am!"
At the age of 82, Newton said, "My memory is nearly gone, but I remember two things: that I am a great sinner--and that Christ is a great Savior!"
John Newton's tombstone reads: "John Newton, once an infidel and libertine, a servant of slaves in Africa, was, by the rich mercy of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, preserved, restored, pardoned, and appointed to preach the faith he had long labored to destroy!"
"By the grace of God I am what I am!" 1 Corinthians 15:10
