Regeneration, Repentance and Conversion

Written by Bob Krajcik
First, one is regenerated, that means they are born again, quickened, born of the Spirit. Therefore, they are granted repentance unto life (Acts 11:18), and converted (Acts 3:19). Before a person is born again, they are dead in trespasses and sins. A dead man does nothing to cause themselves to be made alive (John 11:39-44).
Those that were dead spiritually are made alive, born of the Spirit.
John 6:63 It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.
Ephesians 2:1 And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins;
The saved were dead, but are made alive.
Ephesians 2:5 Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;)
Romans 8:15 For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father. 16 The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:
This verse of Scripture tells how being born again is God's will, not man's will. We do not lead the Spirit, but the Spirit comes and goes as it is shown in John 3:8.
John 1:13 Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.
John 3:8 The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit.
Romans 8:14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.
Romans 8:8 So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God. 9 But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.
We do not tell the Spirit, go here and go there. Read 1 Corinthians 2:14. Also, as Romans 8:8 says, they that are in the flesh cannot please God. Read Romans 3:9-17 and Romans 10:16-20.
John 3:6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. 7 Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again. 8 The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit.
Romans 9:16 So then it is not of him that willeth, nor of him that runneth, but of God that sheweth mercy. 17 For the scripture saith unto Pharaoh, Even for this same purpose have I raised thee up, that I might shew my power in thee, and that my name might be declared throughout all the earth. 18 Therefore hath he mercy on whom he will have mercy, and whom he will he hardeneth. 19 Thou wilt say then unto me, Why doth he yet find fault? For who hath resisted his will? 20 Nay but, O man, who art thou that repliest against God? Shall the thing formed say to him that formed it, Why hast thou made me thus? 21 Hath not the potter power over the clay, of the same lump to make one vessel unto honour, and another unto dishonour?
The natural man, the one that is not born again, has no desire for the things of God. They might be interested in religion, and they will be interested in their own supposed self sufficiency, imagining they can do something, say some words, or learn some way to cause God to be obligated to save them, based on the mans own terms (Isa 28:15), but they are lost and on the way to hell. Salvation is of the Lord.
Romans 3:9 What then? are we better than they? No, in no wise: for we have before proved both Jews and Gentiles, that they are all under sin; 10 As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one: 11 There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God. 12 They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one. 13 Their throat is an open sepulchre; with their tongues they have used deceit; the poison of asps is under their lips: 14 Whose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness: 15 Their feet are swift to shed blood: 16 Destruction and misery are in their ways: 17 And the way of peace have they not known: 18 There is no fear of God before their eyes.
Romans 10:16 But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Esaias saith, Lord, who hath believed our report? 17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. 18 But I say, Have they not heard? Yes verily, their sound went into all the earth, and their words unto the ends of the world. 19 But I say, Did not Israel know? First Moses saith, I will provoke you to jealousy by them that are no people, and by a foolish nation I will anger you. 20 But Esaias is very bold, and saith, I was found of them that sought me not; I was made manifest unto them that asked not after me.
Christ died for the sheep.
John 10:11 I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep.
Christ gives eternal life to the sheep. The once were dead but are made alive, eternal life.
John 10:27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: 28 And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.
Those given life cry out to God.
Romans 8:15 For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father. 16 The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:
Romans 10:13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
Romans 10:17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
2 Thessalonians 2:13 But we are bound to give thanks alway to God for you, brethren beloved of the Lord, because God hath from the beginning chosen you to salvation through sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth: 14 Whereunto he called you by our gospel, to the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.
1 Thessalonians 2:13 For this cause also thank we God without ceasing, because, when ye received the word of God which ye heard of us, ye received it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which effectually worketh also in you that believe.
The Scriptures make clear the importance of faith, supernatural faith, not simply natural faith:
Romans 3:28 Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law.
Romans 5:1 Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ: 2 By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.
See that not all have supernatural faith:
Ephesians 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
If a person has faith, they possess eternal life. Faith is a gift of God. A person does not have faith, and then end up lost.
But not all have faith.
2 Thessalonians 3:2 And that we may be delivered from unreasonable and wicked men: for all men have not faith.
Acts 28:24 And some believed the things which were spoken, and some believed not.
John 10:26 But ye believe not, because ye are not of my sheep, as I said unto you.
Romans 9:18 Therefore hath he mercy on whom he will have mercy, and whom he will he hardeneth.
Romans 9:21 Hath not the potter power over the clay, of the same lump to make one vessel unto honour, and another unto dishonour?
John 6:64 But there are some of you that believe not. For Jesus knew from the beginning who they were that believed not, and who should betray him. 65 And he said, Therefore said I unto you, that no man can come unto me, except it were given unto him of my Father.
As t is written, Therefore said I unto you, that no man can come unto me, except it were given unto him of my Father. Yet many teach and believe that it is left with man, that man comes and goes as he pleases, and says some words to be saved if he wants, and God is not active in saving His sheep, but leaves it to the sheep to be saved or lost as they so please. The written word of God does not agree with such teaching. The grace of God actually brings salvation to the sheep, and does not merely try to bring salvation. Jesus saves! It is written,
John 6:37 All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out.
John 6:39 And this is the Father's will which hath sent me, that of all which he hath given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up again at the last day.
John 17:2 As thou hast given him power over all flesh, that he should give eternal life to as many as thou hast given him.
John 17:9 I pray for them: I pray not for the world, but for them which thou hast given me; for they are thine.
John 10:27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: 28 And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.
If you have objections with this, remember that this is the word of God we have to deal with. List your objections, write them out so you can collect your thoughts and make sure what you are saying, then list Scriptures to back up why you say what you say.
What about Christ Jesus? Have you received Christ? Does the Spirit of Christ bear witness that you are a child of God? The Spirit does not operate contrary to the word of God. Are you obeying the truth through the Spirit of Christ?
John 14:17 Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.
John 15:26 But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me:
Ephesians 1:13 In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise, 14 Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory.
What do the Scriptures say? Have you been made alive, born again?
1 John 4:6 We are of God: he that knoweth God heareth us; he that is not of God heareth not us. Hereby know we the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error.
John 3:17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. 18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
John 10:17 Therefore doth my Father love me, because I lay down my life, that I might take it again.
John 20:31 But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name.
In closing, I must say, that for a person to be saved, they must repent toward God, with faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ.
Acts 20:21 Testifying both to the Jews, and also to the Greeks, repentance toward God, and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ.
Luke 13:3, 5 I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.
The Lord is the great God of all, each and every person without exception, and He is Saviour of those that believe, having redeemed the sheep. As it is written, “our Saviour” for He gave Himself for the sheep, and He is no Saviour of any that will be in hell. Jesus saves!
Titus 2:13 Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ; 14 Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.
