Romans 16:25-27

A Study of The Book of Romans

Lesson 117 Chapter 16:25 - 27

By Pastor Randy Johnson

  1. Verse 25 “Now to him that is of power to stablish you according to my gospel, and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery, which was kept secret since the world began,”
    1. Now to God who has the power to “stablish” (stedfastly set, strengthen) – you as He has chosen by the means that He has chosen. – This speaks of God the Father who chose us in eternity past and God the Holy Spirit who has called us in time and caused us to believe.

a. 1 Peter 5:10 “But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you.”

b. It is always wonderful to see the scriptures uplift the power and works of God; praise be to His glory and honor for His kindness to us. Ephesians 3:20 - 21 "Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us, (21.) Unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen."

c. 2 Thessalonians 2:16 - 17 "Now our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and God, even our Father, which hath loved us, and hath given us everlasting consolation and good hope through grace, (17.) Comfort your hearts, and stablish you in every good word and work."

    1. “…according to my gospel, and the preaching of Jesus Christ…” – No this is not Paul personal gospel but rather the Gospel of Jesus Christ which belongs to all of us who are saved and especially to them that preach it.

a. 2 Thessalonians 2:13 - 14 "But we are bound to give thanks alway to God for you, brethren beloved of the Lord, because God hath from the beginning chosen you to salvation through sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth: (14.) Whereunto he called you by our gospel, to the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.”

    1. “…according to the revelation of the mystery, which was kept secret since the world began,”

a. Everything with God is a mystery until He chooses to reveal it. The Gentiles being saved was a mystery for thousands of years until Jesus Christ.

b. Ephesians 1:9 "Having made known unto us the mystery of his will, according to his good pleasure which he hath purposed in himself:"

c. Colossians 1:25 - 28 "Whereof I am made a minister, according to the dispensation of God which is given to me for you, to fulfil the word of God; (26.) Even the mystery which hath been hid from ages and from generations, but now is made manifest to his saints: (27.) To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory: (28.) Whom we preach, warning every man, and teaching every man in all wisdom; that we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus:"

    1. “…which was kept secret since the world began,” Acts 15:18 “Known unto God are all his works from the beginning of the world.”

a. Daniel 2:21 – 22 “And he changeth the times and the seasons: he removeth kings, and setteth up kings: he giveth wisdom unto the wise, and knowledge to them that know understanding: (22.) He revealeth the deep and secret things: he knoweth what is in the darkness, and the light dwelleth with him.”

b. Amos 3:7 “Surely the Lord GOD will do nothing, but he revealeth his secret unto his servants the prophets.”

  1. Verse 26 “But now is made manifest, and by the scriptures of the prophets, according to the commandment of the everlasting God, made known to all nations for the obedience of faith:”
    1. That is the secret thing of God that He elected to happen before the foundation of the world was made known in time.
    2. Colossians 1:26 - 27 "Even the mystery which hath been hid from ages and from generations, but now is made manifest to his saints: (27.) To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory:"
    3. “…according to the commandment of the everlasting God…” – not according to the will of man nor by the command of man but the secret will of God. Acts 26:16 - 18 “But rise, and stand upon thy feet: for I have appeared unto thee for this purpose, to make thee a minister and a witness both of these things which thou hast seen, and of those things in the which I will appear unto thee; (17.) Delivering thee from the people, and from the Gentiles, unto whom now I send thee, (18.) To open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith that is in me.”
  2. Verse 27 “To God only wise, be glory through Jesus Christ for ever. Amen. Written to the Romans from Corinthus, and sent by Phebe servant of the church at Cenchrea.”
    1. Praise God for our salvation to the glory of Jesus Christ who died for our sins.
    2. Hebrews 13:21 “Make you perfect in every good work to do his will, working in you that which is wellpleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ; to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.”
