The Accuser of Our Brethren

From the Pastor: Dr. M. J. Seymour, Sr.

“And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night.” (Rev. 12:10)

Beyond all doubt, every brother or sister in Christ Jesus, though saved in the present and in the future, has in the past been guilty of gross sins, for it is revealed that “all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.” (Rom. 3:23) Yet, it is also made known that “If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.” (I Jn. 1:8) While the Holy Scripture are proof enough of this truth, our own hearts cry out “O, wretched man that I am!” Even if there were not anyone or any written decree to validate our guilt before the righteousness of God, our own conscience would bear record of the hideous wickedness that lies within. Still, we are boldly able to declare, “Grace! By His wondrous Grace we are purified in the blood of the Lamb and found justified before the Eternal Judge.” Even so, this does not silence the Grand Accuser.

Our great salvation is fixed and sure, but that abominable Dragon seeks to make our path of righteousness most miserable as he besieges us with endless accusations of our unworthiness. Not only does Satan bring railing accusations of sins past to our hearts, he also enlists devilish razor-tongued busybodies to do the same; then in bold arrogance he stands before our God to slander every saint. Though try that old Serpent will, he shall find no satisfaction at the throne of our Eternal Mercy infinitely saturated with the blood of our Passover Lamb. Does the Father find fault in the innocence of His own sacrificial blood? Thus, He equally can find no fault in those cleansed by His blood. Then, why do we yet find fault?

Brethren are far too often guilty of taking up the Accuser’s cause against other brethren. Is it the believer’s lot to be Accuser, Judge, Jury, and Executioner? Are we not brethren cleansed of all sin by the same blood? If Satan, the accuser of the brethren, shall be cast down, what shall be the fate of those who do his bidding? Be not shaken or hindered in the way of righteousness, for the Serpent’s accusations shall lose their footing in the flood of our Savior’s blood. Accuse they may, but our salvation is to the uttermost.
