Wake-up! You Are the Problem!

Wake-up! You Are the Problem!

From the Pastor: Dr. M. J. Seymour, Sr.

“… But Jonah was gone down into the sides of the ship; and he lay, and was fast asleep. So the ship master came to him, and said unto him, What meanest thou, O Sleeper? arise, call upon thy God, if so be that God will think upon us, that we perish not.” (Jonah 1:5-6)

Now, Jonah is very typical of most churches and church members in our “modern” world. It is as if many of the opening prayers begin with - “Now I lay me down to sleep; if all should die and go to hell please do not my spirit shake! Bless us four and not one more, because You know ‘Lord?’ witnessing is such a chore!” Lord forbid that we should actually want to seek the face of God with heavenward worship, praising the Lord for His mercies and goodness toward us, and sing words that in fact have an earnest purpose of lifting up the Name of God and the blessed Christ Jesus.

The whole of mankind is rushing towards the gates of hell, and the so-called “redeemed” are sitting firmly on the seats of do nothing and singing “I shall not be moved!” The world is in utter chaos, but the saints are snuggled down in their security blankets with their shinny halos pulled down over their eyes so they will not be disturbed. Sometimes they resemble the three little monkeys – “See not the commands of God, hear not the preachers’ warning, and speak not the witness of the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ!”

God told Jonah to arise, go, and to cry out, but he would have nothing of it and sought to flee from the presence of God; but he could not. Then, he tried to sleep it off, but even in sleep the guilt of his sin roared in a tempest against him. Everyone around Jonah knew that he was the one that had brought these calamities into their lives. Jonah could not escape his guilt in a false sense of security.

Far too many “believers” are lingering in their self induced comas adjusting their halos and plugging their ears. Paul wrote: “Awake to righteousness and sin not; … I speak this to your shame.” (I Cor. 15:34) “Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead,” (Eph. 5:14) Wake-up O Sleeper! YOU are the problem with the church! Wipe the sleep from your eyes and stare clearly into the mirror of God’s Word. Do you not yet see that you are the problem? Pop the Day Dreaming Bubble; WAKE-UP! The glorious Light of the Gospel of Christ grows dimmer! Do you care nothing of that?
