From the Pastor: Dr. M. J. Seymour, Sr.
“At my first answer no man stood with me, but all men forsook me: I pray God that it may not be laid to their charge. Notwithstanding the Lord stood with me, and strengthened me; …” (II Tim. 4:16-17a) “And it came to pass, as he was alone praying, his disciples were with him: and he asked them, saying, Whom say the people that I am?” (Lk. 9:18)
There is one thing that is a must to learn in one’s relationship with Christ Jesus and God; that is, the determined path of righteousness is quite frequently a solitary journey. There will be many a time that faithful pilgrims will walk alone in the physical world, yet, never alone in the spiritual. I cannot impress you dear reader enough the absolute comprehension of this matter! There are many times in your steadfastness that you must choose to walk on alone with the Lord or to forsake the Lord for your emotional attachments. You will constantly face: “Lovest thou Me more than these?” The true depth of your faithfulness will yield your answer!
Notice in Luke that the Lord was “alone” as He was praying, yet, “his disciples were with him.” By this we are to understand that though we may be in the mist of others, it does not mean that they are participating with us as we walk with our heavenly Father. Actually, it is more factual to say that in most cases we are completely alone walking in our submissive and unwavering fellowship with our Lord, Who will never leave us or forsake us as everyone else will do on many occasions. Faithful followers must accept this fact, or they will become discouraged and depressed. One must get used to being amongst others, yet, at the same moment in time standing alone for Christ and for His righteousness.
Undeniably, most that claim to be a “Christian” have no real concept of what it is to walk arm-in-arm with Jesus and to stand unmovable at His side. They are so enormously and emotionally tied to this present world and to other people (family, friends, co-workers, etc.) that they refuse to make that eternal and crucial stand with God and Christ Jesus. This results in them forsaking those that are close to them as they stand fix upon the Rock of the Ages. The further we enter into the last days, the greater this separation will grow. It is imperative to strengthen our ability to stand alone.
