From the Pastor: Dr. M. J. Seymour, Sr.
“…pride, and arrogancy, and the evil way, and the forward mouth do I hate.” (Prov. 8:13) “Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall.” (Prov. 16:18) “A man’s pride shall bring him low: but honour shall uphold the humble in spirit.” (Prov. 29:23)
Pride can be a positive force as when one takes pride in his work, or home, or personal appearance, or service for the Lord, etc. When yoked with the humbleness of Christ it can be a wonderful tool in a Christian’s life. However, when pride is yoked with the deceitfulness of Satan it can be a wicked and destructive weapon. When it is partnered up with arrogance it becomes a massive force of untold evilness. This arrogant pride is always accompanied by evil ways and a forward mouth. It has its birth in the pits of hell and Satan is its father. To this foul character the God of the heavens and earth declares, “I HATE.” It is a putrefying stench in His nostrils.
When arrogance is yoked to pride its wickedness is magnified a hundred times over. Arrogance is characterized by such personas as conceit, self-centeredness, insensitivity toward others, and exaggerated thoughts of superiority, self-worth, and self-importance. These traits are inherited from their father Lucifer who in his arrogant pride said in his heart, “I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High.” But to this God says: “Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit.” (Is. 14:13-15) Arrogant pride has its origin in Lucifer, does the bidding of Lucifer, and will be brought down to hell with Lucifer. Satan is the “king over all the children of pride.” (Job 41:34) King Nebuchadnezzar learned the hard way and warns, “those that walk in pride he is able to abase.” (Dan. 4:37)
You may think you are high and mighty, but the God who sits upon the throne of the heavens and the heaven of the heavens and whose very words created all things has but to speak and you shall be cast to the ground and into the eternal pit. Arrogant pride is no companion of the children of righteousness. If you would have honor with God, yoke yourself with the humbleness of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, and He will raise you up in the ages to come.
