Unhinged Between Two Opinions

From the Pastor:  Dr. M. J. Seymour, Sr.

“And Elijah came unto all the people, and said, How long halt ye between two opinions? if the LORD be God, follow him: but if Baal, then follow him.  And the people answered him not a word.”  “…the God that answereth by fire, let him be God. …” (I Kings 18:21, 24)  The Apostle James wrote: “A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.” (James 1:8)

The term “double minded” from the language implies the person is “two spirited” or “indecisive”.  Thus, the person becomes unstable and incapable for any useful occupation.  He is much like a door off its hinges, incapable of swinging either way to fulfill its duties.  He becomes caught between two opinions with the inability to act decisively.  The predicament requires concrete commitment to one.

The problem in the Lord’s churches is “political correctness”.  They find themselves unhinged in the Kingdom of God caught between the minds of men and the mind of God.  Apostle Paul propositioned: “For do I now persuade men, or God? or do I seek to please men? for if I yet pleased men, I should not be the servant of Christ.” (Gal. 1:10)  Well, Brethren, are we the servants of God or the servants of “political correctness”?  Who is truly the living “God”?

The mind and courage of Elijah ought to be of the Lord’s churches, also!  Let His churches find their backbones beginning in the pulpits.  O that the churches would be set back on their hinges and be rightfully used to shut the door to sin and political correctness and opened to the honest preaching of the Holy Writ and prayers that court the ear of God.  May they be steadfast in holy determination for the Almighty to light the fires of the Gospel of Christ in this generation.  May they find their ways to the old prayer closets and shut the doors until He Who is God answers with fire from on High!

Let us not stagger at the promises of God but claim them as joint heirs with His blessed Son Jesus.  Is not our God the same yesterday, today, and forever?  Shall He not also grant us Holy Fire?
