Titus - 10

A Study Of The Book Of Titus.

Lesson 10 Chapter 2:10 - 12

By Pastor Randy Johnson

  1. Verse 10 “Not purloining, but shewing all good fidelity; that they may adorn the doctrine of God our Saviour in all things.”
    1. Verse 10 went with verse 9 however we did not have enough time to include it last week.
    2. “Not purloining, but shewing all good fidelity” the word “purloining” means – embezzle but it also means keep back – This is not just slaves but also employees steeling from their employers.

a. This theft can include anything from pens, money, or to time. Anything not yours is your employers.

b. The word “fidelity” means – reliance or one that is relied on to be faithful and honest. Not just faithful in money but rather faithful in all things.

c. If you are a Christian and cannot be totally trusted at work then you have failed in this area. Christians makes good employees because we are honest and can be depended on to give a day of labor for a days pay. 1 Corinthians 4:2 “Moreover it is required in stewards, that a man be found faithful.” The word “stewards” means ministers but it also means employees.

    1. “…that they may adorn the doctrine of God our Saviour in all things.”

a. That they may show the employer that they are Christian’s and faithful servants of God as well as the employer.

b. The doctrine of Christ was salvation and after salvation come change in a person; do we display that change?

c. That is in all things that we do. Ephesians 4:1 "I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called,"

  1. Verse 11 “For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men,”
    1. The grace of God has come to all men who have ever been saved, not to literally all mankind but to those who are saved. The word “appeared” means – become visible too.
    2. Oh, how wonderful is Gods amazing grace that brings salvation to us all.
    3. Psalms 84:11 "For the LORD God is a sun and shield: the LORD will give grace and glory: no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly."
    4. 2 Thessalonians 2:16 - 17 "Now our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and God, even our Father, which hath loved us, and hath given us everlasting consolation and good hope through grace, (17.) Comfort your hearts, and stablish you in every good word and work."
  2. Verse 12 “Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world;”
    1. That is the grace of God that brought us salvation ought to have taught us these things.
    2. God’s grace that brought salvation is so wonderful; obeying God should be a breeze for us; lets just remember who delivered us.
    3. Psalms 4:3 "But know that the LORD hath set apart him that is godly for himself: the LORD will hear when I call unto him."
    4. 2 Corinthians 1:12 “For our rejoicing is this, the testimony of our conscience, that in simplicity and godly sincerity, not with fleshly wisdom, but by the grace of God, we have had our conversation in the world, and more abundantly to you-ward.”
    5. 2 Peter 2:9 "The Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly out of temptations, and to reserve the unjust unto the day of judgment to be punished:"

I don’t want to go farther because there is simply to much goodness in verses 13 – 15 to rush it so they will be next week.
