Romans 11:23-25

A Study of The Book of Romans

Lesson 82 Chapter 11:23 – 25

By Pastor Randy Johnson

  1. Verse 23 “And they also, if they abide not still in unbelief, shall be graffed in: for God is able to graff them in again.”
    1. Here God is speaking of Israel ’s restoration; He is speaking of grafting them back into the tree that has Abraham as its root. Never thing that Israel is eternally lost.
    2. Gods promise to Israel in the Old Testament is to restore them.

a. Jeremiah 23:3-8 “And I will gather the remnant of my flock out of all countries whither I have driven them, and will bring them again to their folds; and they shall be fruitful and increase. (4.) And I will set up shepherds over them which shall feed them: and they shall fear no more, nor be dismayed, neither shall they be lacking, saith the LORD. (5.) Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will raise unto David a righteous Branch, and a King shall reign and prosper, and shall execute judgment and justice in the earth. (6.) In his days Judah shall be saved, and Israel shall dwell safely: and this is his name whereby he shall be called, THE LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS. (7.) Therefore, behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that they shall no more say, The LORD liveth, which brought up the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt ; (8.) But, The LORD liveth, which brought up and which led the seed of the house of Israel out of the north country, and from all countries whither I had driven them; and they shall dwell in their own land.”

b. We see this reality in Revelation 7:4 “And I heard the number of them which were sealed: and there were sealed an hundred and forty and four thousand of all the tribes of the children of Israel .”

    1. There is no doubt that this is the promised event of re-grafting some of the broken branches. Verse 25 “For I would not, brethren, that ye should be ignorant of this mystery, lest ye should be wise in your own conceits; that blindness in part is happened to Israel , until the fulness of the Gentiles be come in.” More on this when we get to verse 25.
    2. “…for God is able to graff them in again.” – Israel will not return to the Lord on their own, because they simply cannot. Everything in time is done by the ordained counsel of God as a Divine favor; therefore God must and will bring them back after Jesus has returned. It will be a day of Grace and Mercy from God to His beloved Israel .
    3. However be assured they will be “A great Day of Atonement for many Israelites. Zechariah 12:10 “And I will pour upon the house of David, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the spirit of grace and of supplications: and they shall look upon me whom they have pierced, and they shall mourn for him, as one mourneth for his only son, and shall be in bitterness for him, as one that is in bitterness for his firstborn.”
  1. Verse 24 “For if thou wert cut out of the olive tree which is wild by nature, and wert graffed contrary to nature into a good olive tree: how much more shall these, which be the natural branches, be graffed into their own olive tree?”
    1. This scripture shows the power of God in doing this;

a. One, He took the branches from “wild olive tree” (Gentiles) and grafted them into a “good olive tree” and made the branches (contrary to their nature) bare the fruit of the good olive tree. Therefore it will be no problem to re-graft the broken branches into their own tree and make them as though they were never broken off.

    1. Mark 10:27 “And Jesus looking upon them saith, With men it is impossible, but not with God: for with God all things are possible.” – It is impossible for them to do this on their own, but nothing is impossible with God.
  1. Verse 25 “For I would not, brethren, that ye should be ignorant of this mystery, lest ye should be wise in your own conceits; that blindness in part is happened to Israel , until the fulness of the Gentiles be come in.”
    1. This blindness will continue until Jesus Christ returns and the rapture has taken place.

a. The Gentile believers will be gone.

b. The churches will be gone.

c. The only ones left will be the Two Witnesses and the Jews that God has re-grafted.

d. We (as Gentiles) are doing what Israel should be doing, but when our work is done and we are gone, the work of God returns to the Israelites.

    1. This is only a mystery because it is something that had to be revealed,

a. Gentiles being saved. This was un-thought until God saved them and called them His own, a title reserved for Israel . Acts 15:14 “Simeon hath declared how God at the first did visit the Gentiles, to take out of them a people for his name.”

b. Gentiles would take over the work of God. That is instead of Israel , this was unthinkable when Christ was born and all of B.C.

c. That the churches would consist of Gentiles. The first one was Jewish, but after that it began to change.

d. All of these were mysteries before Jesus Christ but revealed shortly after His death.

e. But our days are numbered before the Israelites will return and be re-grafted.
